This hotel was a hidden gem. From the moment we arrived, friendly staff clean rooms, and contemporary atmosphere. Longe area where breakfast and wine tasting is served was very inviting and comfortable. Highly recommend.

The staff was great and helpful. The staff went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. The staff warmed up food that we had brought with us since we have special diet restrictions. The rooms were clean and comfortable. It's right off of Hwy 1 and within walking distance to town.

My uncle and I were looking forward to our road trip up Highway 1 and an overnight at the El Colibri Hotel. Due to a medical emergency, we had to curtail the trip. I called and sent a follow-up email to cancel. The hotel gave no response. None. Zip. Just charged us full pop. An overall miserable experience.

We have been going to Cambria for weekend holidays for nearly twenty years. Over the last several years we've been anxiously awaiting the opening of the Colibri, as we've seen it being built year by year. This month we finally got a chance to book a room, and sadly we were unimpressed. I don't want to say anything to dissuade anyone from giving it a try, but if you are thinking this hotel is going to be a step up from the other offerings in Cambria, and more specifically on Moonstone Beach, you are mistaken. For starters the hotel is very clean, neat and well cared for. The hostess was lovely, and checked us in with speed and friendliness. You walk in and the large room where they serve breakfast and at night drinks, is very nicely appointed, but furniture is a bit oversized and clunky. It is cozy however and pretty. The rest of the hotel albeit clean, is sadly decorated, with little thought given to a cohesive theme. It's like someone dragged out all the old art in their attic and placed it randomly on the walls. We found the African mask in our room particularly silly when placed next to the other art in our room. Nothing matched and in fact, the art was ghastly when taken in a whole. The room was a mismatch of various types of art and nothing worked. Our room was sort of strangely shaped as well, not convenient at all. Like I said before, there is nothing bad about this hotel, it's just not interesting. We paid more than we would have paid at the other hotels on Moonstone Beach, and we've been more impressed with those establishments...mostly because they never made a claim to creativity whereas I think the Colibri has made that claim...in the sense that they offer themselves as an alternative to the Moonstone Beach fare. They have not achieved this. I feel like we overpaid. Sorry, that's how I feel. This hotel should have cost about one hundred and eight dollars per night, not three hundred. If you don't care about how a hotel is decorated then stay there and you will enjoy the cleanliness and friendliness of the place.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is on the backside of the hotel as the front side butts up against the main road...

We booked this hotel because it was located close to Highway 1 and we needed a hotel close to Hearst castle which we were visiting the following day.
The quality of the hotel was outstanding and the staff were very helpful on our arrival.
The hotel has a underground car park with enough spaces for all the guests.
We booked a Kingsize room and it was fantastic. There was plenty of room and all the furniture was modern, there was a leather sofa which was very comfortable.
The Spa and steam room were located on the 1st floor and were well worth using.
There was a continental type breakfast in the morning which was enough to get you going in the morning.
There are plenty of eating houses across the road on Main Street for evenoing meals but you would need to drive to most of them.

Requested and guaranteed private room due to business travel last summer. Was actually booked the worst room next to lobby area. Staff was inconsiderate and extremely noisy in the lobby. No sleep first night, asked to be relocated and denied for second night, so requested consideration due to early business meetings. Was awoken all night, and not aware of the booked Opera singer in the lobby (never posted) and needless to say, never slept. Horrible experience as it effected my business trip the entire weekend.

When issue was expressed to management, several lies were told which upset us even more. That the manager "Holly" had talked to us and offered other accomodations. Never happened as of course we would have appreciated this and had requested this already. Upsetting to know we could've had a better experience the second night of our stay.

After leaving and trying to express my concern to the hotel for future guests, they refused to address dishonest management, offer any resolution, and ignored all messages. I was a Customer Service Manager for 26 years and find this unbelieveable that this hotel operated in this capacity.

Worst customer service experience ever and would never recommend this hotel to anyone especially with the outrageous prices which provided no relaxation or rest whatsoever.

Room Tip: Do not let them book you near the lobby area as the staff is inconsiderate and it is extremely noisy...

I find it a little nerve wracking to book smaller, non chain hotels online. Not that I havent had bad experiences with chain hotels but you have a some level of comfort knowing that certain standards are LIKELY to be met. I couldnt have made a better choice of hotels by booking El Colibri. We wished we had more time in Cambria just to stay her longer. The hotel was beautifully furnished and decorated in a modern, subdued yet completely original style. The hotel was quiet and restful, the toiletries were very nice the complimentary breakfast buffet was even nice. The wifi service was free and the parking convenient. You can go directly from the parking garage to your room without having to go thru the lobby. Our room was spacious with a seperate living room, king bed, 2 televisions and a jacuzzi. The staff was very very nice and super helpful. One of our best small hotel experiences.
