“Very good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2012

Stayed here for 2 nights in an executive jacuzzi room facing the back of the hotel which is what I requested. Total silence and no noise could be heard so for light sleepers the back is very quiet - the windows are very well insulated so I would imagine the same is true at the front. Plenty of free parking at the hotel and also free Wifi. Breakfast is ok - its enough to get you started for the day - no hot options mainly cereal, breads, juice, yoghurt, fruit. Lovely beaches/walks/boardwalk 3 minutes from the hotel - turn left when you exit the hotel and you cant miss it. Lovely walks and a nice place to relax. Cute little grey ground squirrels all along the boardwalk which goes on for maybe 2 miles. The hotel is across the road from the town of Cambria which is really in 2 sections - the first part is like a 3-5 minute walk the second part maybe 15 minutes. Everything closes early in both sections of the town. This was our first stop having a lovely drive down from SF so it was great to relax here for 2 nights. The rooms in the hotel are beautiful - very high standards and very new and large. Didn't do the wine tasting as i'm not sure if it was on when we visited. For European visitors expecting big spa facilities they may want to make enquiries but I believe the only spa features are the outdoor Jacuzzi, and a steam room that would burn your feet as its one of those instant steam type ones. Many hotels we visited in California that were spa hotels but they would not have anything like the range of spa services available in European hotels so just be advised of this. It's not a criticism of the hotel as many of the hotels we stayed in had spa's attached with just the same facilities. The jacuzzi in El Colibri is outdoor and open 24 hours I think which is really good. Didn't try any treatments so could not comment. All in all very good and would recommend and would stay again if in this lovely area. One word of thanks to the manager I think his name was Tanu or Tonu - very helpful, friendly and welcoming.

We visited Cambria last week and stayed at El Colibri and even though they allowed pets they are not really pet friendly facility. The hotel has only been open for two years but yet the in room TV already needs to be replaced but the bed is very comfortable. The staff is friendly but they don't go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. We did utilize their "spa" and my husband and I had massages but its not a full service spa. They do not have facials, scrubs, etc....
Cambria is a beautiful place to visit for a long weekend, very relaxing but I think I will find a better place to stay that is more pet friendly hotel.

We loved this hotel, it was right on the side of Highway 1, and after a long drive it was a wonderful oasis, we only spent one night in a King Jacuzzi room, it was spacious, clean and very comfortable. The bed was a luxury after staying in motels for three nights. Oh and the luxury of a Hotel with a bar with excellent wine choices. There was no restaurant but they very quickly booked us a table at Madeleine's just in the little town of Cambria. Breakfast was great the next day lovely pastries and fruit . Thank you for making our stay so comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Jacuzzi King it was lovely, on the ground floor but very quiet and peaceful, never he...

i have only reviewed hotels when they have exceeded my expectations. el colibri in cambria did just that this weekend. the boutique hotel is the only hotel on moonstone drive that on the ocean-side of the road. there is no ocean view, but the few hundred feet it takes to get to the waves is so worth it. the fireplace (gas) inside the room, with room doors that open up to the sound of the waves, large soaking tub, friendly and thoughtful staff and modern comfy room furnishings were a wonderful package. included in our stay was continental breakfast, which was tasty and an added bonus! so glad we chose their property and have already recommended it to friends and family - looking forward to our next visit!!

Room Tip: the backside of the hotel faces a wooded area and you can hear the waves, just beyond.

We read a recent negative review of this place but decided to stay anyway and soooo glad we did! The GM and staff made us feel pampered from the moment we walked in until checkout. Our ground floor room faced Moonstone Drive but since Cambria does silence and relaxation better than nearly anyplace we've been, we didn't notice traffic noise any more than at other Moonstone Drive inns we've visited. The always excellent Madeline's Restaurant was a mere 1/4 mile walk in the cool, clear evening. When we got back to the lobby we enjoyed wine tasting from an outstanding local vintner and live music. Breakfast, a modest self-serve buffet, included vegan options that we didn't expect but were delighted to discover. We couldn't be more satisfied...we've already recommended El Colibri and will be back.

Room Tip: Any room at this beautiful property will be great...our's was!

We stayed in Room 219, which is a fantastic suite with a fireplace, and both a queen and a king bed separated into two "rooms" by a high wall. Just outside of the hotel, there's a winding boardwalk that will take you down to the beach, which has a ton of beautiful driftwood. To get into town, you have to drive a few minutes, and the food selection is slim, but there are great little shops throughout town. Only downside is that none of the rooms have a mini-fridge. We used to stay in Santa Barbara on our way to Carmel; from now on, we'll be staying here. Sweet, sleepy town with nice people - now that we've got kids, we enjoy it much more than the State St scene in SB.
