“Simply the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2011

Having stayed at this hotel when it first opened I just had to go back. Having travelled all of the Pacific Highway from San Diego to Eureka and back again, this was by far the friendliest, cleanist, cosiest and most welcoming hotel I had the pleasure of staying. From staff to owners, everyone takes pride in being at El Colibri. In August this year I took my family on a tour from San Francisco and once again I just had to stay at this hotel, and again, it did not dissapoint. My only regret is living in the UK and not being able to visit more often. Rooms are spacious and so comfortable, the wifi worked perfectly, the open air roof top jacuzzi was great and staff amazing. Convenient for Hearst Castle and good restaurant a short stroll away.

We stayed here for a few days. The room was large with a very comfortable bed and even a fire. It had a large bathroom with wet-room shower. The complementary continental breakfast was good, but if you want a fry-up you are out of luck. We didn't so that wasn't a problem. The location is on the edge of town next to the boardwalk down to the beach. It doesn't have a restaurant but there are any nmber that you can walk to or drive to in Cambria.

This is a great little hotel which we recommend.

My husband and I stayed at the El Colibri in Cambria, as it appeared the most modern and updated for our taste. The wine bar is great for sipping local wines and sitting by the fire. The only downside was there is no restaurant/room service and they offer small tapas only. The area generally closes down early during the week, so we had to hurry to make it to a nearby restaurant before 8:30, so be prepared to not have a "late dinner". Very pleased overall. Perfect location to Hearst Castle & the lighthouse and sea elephants!

This is a very nice property and as others have noted, you feel welcomed from the minute you walk in the door. Everyone is very pleasant and helpful--happy to book reservations for you and quick to provide any coupons available for restaurants and/or wine tasting. The room couldn’t have been more comfortable. A refridgerator would have been nice, but its absence would not prevent me from returning. The wireless system worked well with plenty of strength to use from your room. The wine tasting each evening was a pleasant experience, allowing us to taste some wonderful regional wines. The breakfast each morning was a perfect start to the day, not to heavy but certainly enough so that you won’t go hungry. El Colibri is within walking distance of the beach, a nature preserve, and the west side of town. You can walk to the east side as well, which we did one evening for dinner, but it’s close to 1.5 miles one way, so dress accordingly. We booked spa appointments one afternoon and were both very pleased with our massages. Overall, our 3 night stay at El Colibri was a most enjoyable experience, the staff having much to do with our enjoyment.

Absolutely loved this place. The continental breakfast was great and had a very nice selection. Loved the Kuirig coffee maker in the room. And also loved the spa, hot tub, underground parking & wine tasting and entertainment!!!
There were deer right outside our window and next to the hotel. It was a wonderful relaxing stay. :)

We checked into our $250+ a night Jacuzzi King room in this supposed "spa hotel" and were instantly disappointed. The room was small and underwhelming; we explained at reception that the website is very misleading and we were moved to a slightly better room. Having brought wine from our wine country exploring we couldn't believe it when we discovered that the rooms also have NO fridge, even though there is a space for one in what looks like a purpose built cabinet with power sockets and all. Our room has no view and looks out over a dirt patch. We have also just discovered that they have not even provided us with drinking water for the room. At the price we have been charged the whole place is extremely overpriced and not worth it at all. At best it is a spruced up motel with little to no amenities, not even food. We have a saying for a place like this where I come from and that is All fur coat and no knickers which means, (for those that don't already know) nice looking on the outside but nothing going for it underneath.

We are checking out tomorrow.

Do not be fooled by the website and the positive reviews!

Here are the cons listed:

overpriced
no fridge
no satellite channels
no restaurant
no drinking water supplied
cheesy hallway decor
no bellboy to help with bags
no view
no pool
jacuzzi NOT 24 hours, it was closed at 10pm when we tried

When you live in the hot Central California Valley, summers are relentless. Everyone here enjoys a summer outing to the Central Coast to cool off. We recently spent the night at the El Colibri Hotel and Spa, located at the entry to Moonstone Beach in Cambria. The accomodations are clean and comfortable with multple cultural undertones (Latino, Buddhist, Hindu...). The architecture is Mediteranean, interior design is dark woods, multiple ceramic and marble walls and flooring, attractive lighting, leather furnishings and a spa service is available. A continental breakfast is served each morning and tapas and wine tasting for a fee is available in the evening. A wooden walking path is located at the base of the parking area and provides a marvelous view and passage to the cliffy rugged Moonstone Beach below, where numerous tidepools can be traversed and wildlife can be observed. The village of Cambria has multiple artisans and restuarants to enjoy.

Room Tip: Our room faced highway 1 and was a little bit noisy.
