“Disappointing stay in Cambria!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

My family of four just stayed here in August and were disappointed in the hotel especially for the price. We had stayed in Cambria last year at the Cambria Pine Lodge which was wonderful. We loved the area so much that we wanted to visit again. This time I chose to book down on Moonstone Beach which is great area. Unfortunately, the inn does not live up to the description or pictures. It is very tired. The pool area is very small and unappealing. The rooms were ok but dated. We were in a room in the back of the property which basically backed up against the PCH. The location is wonderful with access to the boardwalk and beach. However, for the money that we paid I would expect a great deal more. In fact we paid less the next night in Santa Barbara and stayed at a fabulous resort.

Thank you for taking time to review us. We are sorry you were disappointed in your stay with us. We work hard to give guests the best value for their money and know that summer rates can be high. We are gearing up for a full renovation early 2014 that will bring the FogCatcher Inn to some of the highest quality guests will see here on Moonstone Beach. We hope you give us another chance and see the new changes coming soon. I would love the opportunity to discuss with you your stay personally. Please feel free to contact me at jdavison@FogCatcherInn.com or call me at 805-927-1400. Thank you, James Davison-General Manager.

Picked The Fogcatcher out online from pics and reviews and booked one night on our trip up Highway One. Quaint room-they upgraded us to partial ocean view and the room was very nice. No cookie cutter chain hotel room, this was pretty and clean and roomy. Walked over to the Moonstone Grill for late supper too. Ocean breezes and waves crashing were welcome while we slept comfortably in our king bed. Breakfast was busy, delicious and homemade which was a very nice touch. We have recommended the Fogcathcer to friends and would definitely stay again should we be lucky enogh to be on Highway One again. Stay here, you'll be pleased you did.

Room Tip: Get the partial ocean view!

This appropriately named sea front chalet-style inn has delightful rooms with atmospheric fires (gas powered and electronically adjusted)... though we naively thought we would not need it in August. Huge bed. Good bathroom. Coffee maker. Even a microwave. Parking. Small pool. And, best of all, a wonderful location with the boardwalk along the sea front just across a fairly quiet road. The coast is just beautiful, complete with an atmospheric fret (as we call a sea mist in Yorkshire). Lots of wildlife with seals and cormorants, egrets and other sea birds. Close to Hearst Castle. Delightful town of Cambria with lots of restaurants just up the road. The breakfast is copious in quantity, though at busy times the breakfast room has a cafeteria-like clatter that contrasts with the sense of peace elsewhere.

Not the least bit fancy or up to date. But it is well located across from the beach in this funky and beautiful resort area and delivers a reasonably comfortable stay and decent breakfast. The room is heated by a fireplace and a portable heater which we did not need.

Stayed there in mid-August of 2013. Loved it! Great room and great location! I would recommend it to anyone. A couple of things they could improve on: Pool looked a bit yellowish. Hot tub could have been a bit warmer. Maybe switch up the breakfast items everyday. The place overall was excellent! The town goes to sleep early, so get your dinner early evening!

Regrettably only spent one night in this wonderful place on the Pacific Ocean. Rooms are very large and super clean. Ours was ocean front on the second floor so we had great views. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Our room had a gas fireplace which we used at night because the temperature outside was chilly. Hot breakfast was included and had a wonderful variety of foods. I wish we could have cancelled the rest if our road trip and just stayed here!

Cambria is a kinda sleepy town and the FogCatcher Inn is a great stopping place for a couple of nights. A well tended property with varying size rooms, it is literally steps away from the shore. Breakfast is tried and true eggs, potato, sausage, oatmeal or make your own waffle. Fresh brewed coffee and a small assortment of teas. There are two restaurants within easy walking distance for dinner. And the rooms have refrgerator and microwave if you want to make your own. There is heated pool and spa, but unless you are particularly hearty the coastal fog and wind makes if kinda chilly. I was fortunate to have the balcony room overlooking Pacific and enjoyed the nightly sunset and early morning fog rolling by. A fireplace and comfy reading chair rounds out a well appointed room. There are several ocean facing benches around the property.

Room Tip: Call or email the property and talk about details of what works for you. Not all rooms are handicap...
