“Fantastic stay by the Ocean in Cambria!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2009

The Blue Dolphin has been recently renovated and what renovations, We have stayed there over the years and it needed an overhaul. They have done wonders with the place and it is fantastic! We stayed there for our 46th Anniversary and the stay was great! The rooms are clean well furnished and very classy and elegant. Breakfast is delivered to your room and the view is magestic! Cambria is our favorite get a way and the Blue Dolphin the Inn to stay on in Cambria right on MoonStone Beach.

We recently stayed here for 1 night but thoroughly enjoyed the property. As a travel agent, I spent a good bit of time researching options and we certainly made the right choice. The manager and front desk staff couldn't have been nicer. The inn underwant a major renovation and is beautiful. The colors/art/furniture were all excellent. I would highly recommed this property for anyone passing through. P.S. - It is worth the little extra for an oceanfront room.

We had a lovely stay for one night. Great breakfast included. I was a bit disapointed in the decor....alot of frilly dated furniture and artwork on the walls.....

This is a wonderful hotel located on the fantastic Moonstone drive. You are right across from a wonderful beach and coastline with miles of walking and miles of beaches available to explore. You can see dolphins, sea lyons, chipmunks, lizards out there, the list goes on.......The hotel is great. The staff were incredible! The beds were the most comfortable I have stayed in, the breakfast was delivered each morning to our room we had constant access to tea/coffee and cookies and the beautiful town of Cambria is just minutes away driving. Do not miss visiting Cambria and the Blue Dolphin! I won't go back again and again and again!
Note: The hotel has just been recently renovated and interior designed and is wonderful and looks as if it has just opened its doors.
There is no swimming pool at the Blue Dolphin and the sea is too dangerous to swim in but staying here and listening to the sea each night from our room and visting the wonderful Cambria was wonderful!

The Blue Dolphin has a great location on Moonstone Beach where we could hear the waves and see the sunsets while sitting out on the hotel's front patio (which our room opened upon). The hotel was very recently remodeled and everything is so clean and fresh. The staff was attentive but low-key and everything we could want was available including breakfast delivered free to our room each morning (which we could take down to the beach or out on the patio), an Ipod hookup on the Tivoli radio (just like at home!), cookies in the afternoon, and a big whirlpool tub to relax in. The bedding was incredibly comfortable and the rooms were very quiet--we rarely heard any of our neighbors or anyone in the hall, just the waves! We also appreciated the "green" aspects: the option to keep our sheets and towels, of course, but also the toilet flush options and the recycled/recyclable flatware with our breakfast. My husband loved the coffeemaker in the room (the European capsule kind) and the fact that there was a fridge and microwave in the room for snacks. This is, from what we could tell, one of the most upscale options on the beach and we'd recommend it to anyone not wanting a noisy, outmoded motel on the beach.

Cambria itself offers relaxed options for couples to enjoy the area: wine tasting, beachcombing, horseriding (so great!), and of course Hearst Castle tours. The weather was also perfect and we couldn't have asked for a nicer quiet getaway.

Over a period of fifteen years, this is our third visit to the Blue Dolphin Inn. It's still one of the best locations, right on Moonstone Beach with the ocean just steps away. It's very quiet and your can hear the actual surf. Our room was right on the end facing Moonstoon and we enjoyed wine on the little patio in the evenings. Our friends booked the room next to us so it was easy to get together. The rooms were nice but needed a little maintenance, however nothing major. The bed was very comfortable and the service was good. The breakfast wasn't the best; weak coffee and not much to select from but then we were looking for location so what the heck! Cambria is a lovely small town and has many talented artists displaying their works. Hubby played golf a couple of days and my girlfriend and I did some shopping. Nice place to visit.

  • Liked — Right across the street from the ocean
  • Disliked — The breakfast that was included...not the best

Stayed 2 nights in room 209 - corner unit with partial ocean view. We shared the room with our 11 year old in a fold-away, and there was plenty of room. No room to eat breakfast (pretty extensive - waffles too) in their (dining area) as it's so tiny, but you are invited to take a tray of goodies to your room and sit and enjoy the food looking out from your own window, or bed. Some rooms have no views.
Some lower level on the front have balconies and whirlpool tubs.
The weather was mild enough to leave the windows open all night and hear the waves crashing and to warm up in the morning we just flicked on the gas fireplace - lovely.
All staff were very helpful and pleasant.
We had cookies and apple cider on arrival, and there is always tea and coffee available.
Tried the Black Cat restaurant in town - was o.k., much preferred the restaurant 2 doors down from the hotel - ocean views and good food. (can't remember the name, maybe Moonstone beach bar and grill?)
Great walking up and down the wooden boardwalk outside the hotel. My daughter collected half the rocks from the beach.
Hearst Castle is a must see along with the elephant seals. Saw whales, dolphins and even a condor.
Cambria is great if you like little craft and nic-nac stores. My husband (who's an audiophile) even bought an L.P.. from the second hand store - his first in 19 years.
We had a lovely stay and will go back again.
