“Adequate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2007

Stayed here in October and then again in Nov. Stayed for two nights the first time and one night the second time. Glad it wasn't longer. The hotel is OK - just OK. Rooms were not dirty, but not spotless, either. We expect spotless hotel rooms and clean sheets and towels. Depending on who was at the front desk, they alternated between being extremely helpful and immensely unhelpful. Little consistency, though I will say that the people who were helpful were awesome!

Pros:
Room rate - inexpensive
Complimentary breakfast - not the greatest, but not the worst
Complimentary fresh fruit
Complimentary bottle of water (if they don't run out)
Complimentary cookies (the home-baked ones were great!)
Rooms in back are quiet
Comlimentary computer use

Cons:
Rooms not as clean/spotless as they should be. If they would clean better, it would be a great deal.
Train the all the people who work the front desk to be customer service oriented and to answer the phones.

  • Liked — The price, it was close to where we needed to be, the home-baked cookies, the free bottled water the few of the staff who were friendly and helpful
  • Disliked — The cleanliness of the rooms, the staf who were unfriendly and unhelpful

Arrived at amtrak station in Oxnard not having hotel to stay in and contacted hotels.com they highly recommended the country inn and suites, can't grumble at all hotel room reasonably priced, clean and very large everything as it should be, fantastically situated for the best outlet mall in California as a 2 mile taxi ride, pool area clean perhaps a little small but no one else there. A couple of restaurants within easy walking distance and free internet access. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Only one thing I would change, breakfast included which is gr8 however a little disorganised and not clear on what you should do, just a window and paper plates all that aside gr8 value and very clean would go again (at least I know what to do this time lol)

  • Liked — distance from downtown Los angeles
  • Disliked — breakfast

The Comfort Inn, where we stayed two years ago for another family event, is a nicer (and newer?) motel, but it was fully booked. What we liked: we were upgraded upon check-in because there were no rooms upstairs away from the freeway, which had been our request. The manager (or whoever was at the desk) checked with his housekeeping staff and assigned us what I'm assuming passes as a "suite". It had a recliner in addition to the desk and desk chair. Microwave and refrigerator in room. Comfortable king-size bed. After a good dinner
at the nearby Mexican restaurant (Iguana?) we weren't hungry for the free breakfast, but it looked OK. Probably fresher if you get down early. The two drinks at "happy hour" (5-7 or thereabouts) were good--even though they were out of vermouth so couldn't make martinis. Beer selection was poor. Housekeeping staff was pleasant and helpful. The housekeeper opened the door for me when she saw me coming with hands full. Several sports teams were staying there, but the youngsters were well behaved--no problems with noise (except from
the freeway).

Not so great: pool too small for swimming and water too warm for swimming. Hot tub water was colder than pool water. Spots on carpets probably are a function of age rather than lack of cleaning. Shower head is low. I'm 5'3", and it was only an inch or two above my head. But water pressure was good.

We had to stay in this hotel as we had no say in where to stay for this part of the trip (family member budgets dictated this)

This hotel is ok for a quick stop-over or one or two nights. Pool was dirty. Area is remote. Rooms were ok but felt a little dirty. Hotel smelled musty.

We paid 79/night so what do you expect?

Checked in before I read the earlier reviews that specified terrible service and rudeness on the part of the staff. That's too bad. I hope you aren't already stuck here like I was, because they will charge you if you check out early. Must be part of their award winning service....not!

Everything the other reviewers noticed about the staff's lack of customer care skills is true. If you haven't booked here yet, take my advice and don't!

We were attending a Baby Shower and the mommy-to-be booked the hotel, knowing it was a nice hotel. She specifically asked for an early check-in and told them we would have a 2 year old with us. We arrived at noon (the agreed upon check in time). The lady at the front desk was horribly rude. She kept repeating that check-in is at 3:00 and refuse to stop and listen to the fact we had made previous arrangements. When we asked for the manager, she refused to even pick up the phone and just bluntly stated there was no manager there at that time. We finally were able to convince her to check her computer (15 minutes later) and she called housekeeping to find out if there was a room clean for us. She was so rude and we were now running late for the event, so we just left without asking for the free gift for the toddler traveling with us (a backpack with activities). When we returned early that evening we asked the guy at the front desk for the backpack. He looked at the little boy and said 'no' in a harsh tone. He stated that the reservation did not specify a child and so he would not give one. There were a stack of them sitting on the desk behind the counter. We again asked the lady at check-out (same rude lady from check-in) if he could get the backpack. She stated rudely that those are given at check-in and it was too late.

The hotel room was nice and clean. However, the staffing and customer service made our experience horrible.
