“Stay someplace else....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

This is not a place that I would ever stay again and I am a frequent visitor to Calistoga. The "Sage" room I was in was smaller than the rooms I've stayed in at Indian Springs, the Comfort Inn, Calistoga Day Spa, and Wilkinson's. The sheets were old, the mattress uncomfortable, and the space heater didn't heat the room at all. The so-called down comforter was thin and the blankets were cotton. I didn't expect to be cold at night. I had to get up and put on a sweater and heavy robe so I could warm up. I agree with another reviewer that it's noisy at night because this inn is so close to the traffic on Lincoln Ave. The towels in the bathroom were scratchy. It takes a while to get hot water and I felt bad about wasting all that water. Calistoga is noted for its spring water but there was complimentary distilled water in the refrigerator. At Indian Springs, the complimentary water is spring water.
As a host, Doug was not friendly to me. He didn't point out that there are cookies available and port wine on the side board for guests. Perhaps it's because I'm "ethnic" or because I'm a single woman that he was so hostile. If business is bad, I can see why.
I agree with another reviewer that the breakfast was awful. On my second morning three, I was given the left over "hot" breakfast entree from two days before. I found myself longing for the fresh bagels and hot scrambled eggs served at the Comfort Inn. I would recommend staying at Indian Springs and walking two blocks downtown to have a very nice breakfast instead of staying at the Brannan Cottage Inn Bed and Breakfast.

Hello Kathy,

Thank you for your review. I wanted to reach out to you and let you know that the Brannan Cottage Inn is under new ownership. In fact, the ownership is the same as the Comfort Inn that you mentioned in your review. Our goal as we settle into this new adventure is to try and replicate your enjoyable experiences at the Comfort Inn here at the Brannan Cottage Inn.

We hope to see you again in the future so that you may give us the opportunity to once again be your hosts in the Napa Valley

Cheers,

Peter P.

“We overpaid for two nights and left after only one”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

The only “Pro” to this Inn is its proximity to downtown. Not the location because it was situated slightly off the main street and sandwiched in between residences and behind the athletic fields, neighbors and traffic were loud.
The owner is a talker not a listener, So, his suggestions were not what we asked and just plain inaccurate. We arrived at 2:30PM. He told us the wine bars in town were open until 7PM. So, we unpacked and freshened up then walked to town @4:30PM. All the shops and wine bars were closing up and sent us away. This was my husbands only chance to taste since he would be my designated driver at the wineries. No wine tour companies would come all the way to Calistoga to pick us up.
I understand the property is old but very squeaky floors, doors and bed, just turning in bed or walking on the floor woke us (with earplugs) and when combined with the paper thin walls its not ideal for what couples do on a weekend away.
The bed was the most uncomfortable I have ever slept on, or rather didn't sleep on. The mattress, pillows, down comforter and bedding were well past their prime, Down comforter was so thin I thought it was a quilt.
The room had large windows and glass door facing the yard, the curtains didn’t cover all of window so anyone outside could see inside. No Privacy.
Bathroom was moldy and in need of a good scrub. The door didn’t shut. Shower was freezing cold and towels were hard and scratchy.
Too much furniture in room. It was filthy and in disrepair. Threadbare rugs and draperies. The whole room looked like they went to thrift store.
The breakfast food was not at all typical B&B food, it was awful. After a few bites we ate somewhere else. I am a dog lover, I own two myself but their dog begged for food and whined all through breakfast. unaceptable.
The couch in the parlor was completely covered in dog hair. There were no afternoon/evening beverages or snacks available. The patio area had ladders and hoses strewn about. The chairs were plastic and tilted in toward tables to suggest the patio wasn’t open. House and backyard were completely dark when we walked back from town @ 7PM. Walking down a dark street, entering a backyard via a dark alley next to a house that sounds like Tijuana on a friday night is not fun. I see why the owners don’t sleep on the premise. ( no staff available at all in evening)

Room Tip: Choose any other Inn or Hotel in town for the same price. Stay away unless you are looking to be fru...

“Gracious Host”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

What makes this place special is how you are treated by Doug and Judy. We were on vacation to celebrate our anniversary. When we arrived, Doug and Judy had left us a note and some sparkling wine. Doug helps us plan out next day's winery visits. Breakfasts were great with a lot of fresh fruit. We stayed in the Rose Room which had a fireplace. The room was nice and cozy.
We enjoyed our stay.

“Great Place. Great Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

Wonderful. Visited for a wedding with a bunch of college friends. We got the suite. It isn't the largest suite but it fit the four of us nicely. Breakfast was amazing. It is rustic (i.e. older), but that is because it is a landmark. Lots of charm and fit perfectly into the weekend.

“Great Escape”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

Doug and Judy were were a great hostess. The place is cute and our Lavender room was clean and good size for two people. Doug was very helpful in every aspect. He gave us many options for restaurants and things to do around Calistoga. We loved the breakfast with another guests and a great variety of fresh fruits, cereal, coffee, tea and egg casserole and a spice bread pudding with pears prepared by Judy. Good location and very quite and relax place.

We love "Pinot" the dog. He is a very cute and well behavior.
On Friday Doug and Judy prepared a free wine tasting with delicious cheese and goodies.
