The only “Pro” to this Inn is its proximity to downtown. Not the location because it was situated slightly off the main street and sandwiched in between residences and behind the athletic fields, neighbors and traffic were loud.
The owner is a talker not a listener, So, his suggestions were not what we asked and just plain inaccurate. We arrived at 2:30PM. He told us the wine bars in town were open until 7PM. So, we unpacked and freshened up then walked to town @4:30PM. All the shops and wine bars were closing up and sent us away. This was my husbands only chance to taste since he would be my designated driver at the wineries. No wine tour companies would come all the way to Calistoga to pick us up.
I understand the property is old but very squeaky floors, doors and bed, just turning in bed or walking on the floor woke us (with earplugs) and when combined with the paper thin walls its not ideal for what couples do on a weekend away.
The bed was the most uncomfortable I have ever slept on, or rather didn't sleep on. The mattress, pillows, down comforter and bedding were well past their prime, Down comforter was so thin I thought it was a quilt.
The room had large windows and glass door facing the yard, the curtains didn’t cover all of window so anyone outside could see inside. No Privacy.
Bathroom was moldy and in need of a good scrub. The door didn’t shut. Shower was freezing cold and towels were hard and scratchy.
Too much furniture in room. It was filthy and in disrepair. Threadbare rugs and draperies. The whole room looked like they went to thrift store.
The breakfast food was not at all typical B&B food, it was awful. After a few bites we ate somewhere else. I am a dog lover, I own two myself but their dog begged for food and whined all through breakfast. unaceptable.
The couch in the parlor was completely covered in dog hair. There were no afternoon/evening beverages or snacks available. The patio area had ladders and hoses strewn about. The chairs were plastic and tilted in toward tables to suggest the patio wasn’t open. House and backyard were completely dark when we walked back from town @ 7PM. Walking down a dark street, entering a backyard via a dark alley next to a house that sounds like Tijuana on a friday night is not fun. I see why the owners don’t sleep on the premise. ( no staff available at all in evening)
