“Lovely week-end”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

We just got back from a week-end in Calistoga. Beautiful place and the cottage was very well kept with a pretty garden and within walking distance of downtown. Doug was most helpful with info on restaurants, wineries, hikes etc. The room was comfortable and clean and the breakfast great. We also appreciate the pet friendly nature of the cottage.

We could not of had a better experience at Brannan Cottage Inn. Doug was a great host and provided any info we needed. At my request a few weeks before I arrived, he bought a cake for me so I could surprise my wife for her birthday without having to find a way to get that done on my own. Besides the service, the room was clean and had all we needed. We did not stay around the Inn too much during the day but there is a large yard, porch and tables covered in shade available for relaxation. The Inn is located right off the main Calistoga rd so location was also a plus.

The breakfast is half buffet and half main dish. The buffet consists of fresh fruit, danish, and juices, yogurt, and granola. The main dish is a typical breakfast dish you would find during brunch. All of the food is top-notch and is great way to start the day.

This was a great value and experience. Thanks Doug!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for the weekend my brother was getting married in St. Helena.
Doug and Pinot greeted us when we arrived, and gave us a grand tour and recommendations for the area. He even gave my boyfriend a running route which made him happy.
My first stop was a quick nap in the hammock. The area is shaded by bamboo trees and I was in heaven. We stayed in room 6, and when we woke up the next morning we agreed that it was as comfortable as sleeping in our own bed.
Doug put out quite a spread for breakfast. The cold buffet consisted of fruit, granola, and assorted breads and pastries. The assortment of fruit alone was delicious (kiwi, every berry imaginable, fresh figs, sliced peaches...) Then he brought us Praline Stuffed French Toast with Chicken Apple Sausage. Breakfast was decadent and an excellent way to start the day!
We got lunch from the local market, brought it back, and ate it on the patio. While everyone was at the wineries, we had a chance to really enjoy the property.
The next day for breakfast we had Santa Fe Eggs that were so tasty my boyfriend asked for two servings! When we checked out, Doug gave us recommendations for our next stop which was Mill Valley.
We would stay here again in a heartbeat. We loved everything. Thanks Doug!

My wife and I just got back from a long weekend at Brannan Cottages and is was exquisite!

Location is superb (walk everywhere) the place is spotless, the grounds are very well maintained, old trees and shade in the garden area - great for outdoor reading and relaxing.

What sets Brannan Cottages apart is the level of service. Doug designed and arranged every detail of a spa/wine tasting/dining experience and it was magnificent. He knows all the local spots and his recommendations were superb. So if you want to rent bikes, tour wineries, finish with a spa and dinner (or whatever suits your fancy) - ask Doug and he will make it happen.

Fabulous!

Conveniently located near downtown, nestled amongst rose bushes and towering trees is Brannan Cottage Inn. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Doug and Pinot (the resident Jack Russel Terrier). Doug provided a map, a quick tour of the sitting room and took us to the Amber Room (# 3). The grounds have lovely seating areas, easy access without disturbing other guests, and very comfortable rooms. This is an old house that has been converted to several rooms, and has kept its time period charm. Breakfast begins with a wonderful coffee blend created by Judy, then a "cold buffet" followed by a "hot entree". Following breakfast we were able to enjoy a soak in the jacuzzi of "Golden Haven Spas" just down the road from Brannan, Doug has made an arrangement for his guests to be able to utilize these facilites...what a treat!

Thanks for staying with us at Brannan Cottage Inn and for taking the time to write such a "professional" and detailed review. We're glad that you appreciated the property, and the amenities and services we provide. We'd love to have you stay with us again the net time you come to the "top of the Napa Valley wine country."

One minor point/correction: The Main Building at the Inn began as a cottage for the original Calistoga Hot Springs Resort founded by Sam Brannan, an amazing character in California history. He purchased the property (about 1,000 acres) in 1858 and built our cottage in 1860; It was never a "single family residence." The current uses of the "cottage" part of the main building are our office, parlor and dining room. The "one bedroom" guest rooms were added in 1905 (3 rooms) and the 1920s (1 room). Our second building was begun in the 1930s and completed in the 1940s and now houses our two minisuites, as well as storage and a wine cellar in the half basement below. The service wing (kitchen, laundry, staff restroom) was built in 1985 when the property was converted to a bed and breakfast inn. We've been the owners since June, 2004 and have now hosted over 5,000 individual guests (some many times).

We hope you come back soon.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of our honeymoon and had a great time. We'd debated for ages whether to stay here or in one of the more expensive places in St Helena, wondering if the relatively low cost mean this place wouldn't be great but it was exactly what we were looking for. A very friendly place in a beautiful small town which was far less touristy than other areas of the Napa valley that we saw. Room decor was slightly chintzy for our liking but it fit in well with the style of building and the room was very comfortable so it really didn't matter.

The two best things about this place are firstly the location being easily walkable from the town (very important when you're wine tasting!) but even more so all the little touches which show you how much effort the owners put into making every stay a good one. We arrived to two small bottles of sparkling wine an a congratulations card in our room, we're given a wealth of information about the local area, restaurants etc and even discount vouchers - on to of that there was a hammock and sun loungers in the garden (right outside our room), tea, coffee and homemade cookies always available in the lounge and 2 glasses of wine and a corkscrew in the room to enable you to enjoy and wine purchases at the end of the day.

Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to visit the Napa valley.

Delightful Sunday-to-Tuesday stay. Colorful grounds and well-appointed cottage room that was perfect for the two of us and our two rescued greyhounds. Very accommodating for dogs! Morning breakfast was wonderful, with coffee out at 7am followed by fruit, cereals, and breads then a warm entree... an egg soufle one morning and delicious french toast with chicken artichoke sausage the next! Thank you, Doug!

Room Tip: Book early and get one of the two rear, upstairs rooms... quiet plus the morning aromas from the kit...

Bill--Thanks for your review and for sharing what you liked best about Brannan Cottage Inn. Glad you enjoyed your breakfasts (that's an important B in B&B) and that you were able to take advantage of our pet friendly approach. I should point out that only 3 of our 6 rooms are pet friendly--the Sage, Lavender and Celadon Rooms. Thanks for staying with us! Come back soon.
