“Awesome Resort, Top Notch Service - Booked a large group and had NO PROBLEM”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2009

I am an EA in SF, and booked a group of 24 to stay the night, have spa treatments and visit wineries. They were helpful and resourceful and the service was ABOVE and BEYOND. We wanted for nothing. The place is gorgeous, clean, well designed. The food was AMAZING. What else is there to say?? If you need help with booking a large group, call Jacqi, Sarah, Tyson, Abby etc.. and they will make sure your stay is flawless and memorable.

We will be back!

To be fair, the hotel is physically lovely. The physical layout and rooms are very nice. Particularly for a family, the cottage with two rooms connected by a hallway was great. HOWEVER, the service was not up to snuff. We have prevously stayed at Calistoga Ranch which is owned by the same group and there the service was fanstastic. You felt like they would do anything for you..at Solage...not so much. In fact, you felt somtimes like you were annoying the staff. Parricularly, the concierge and front desk staff were just not that nice. There was only one exception, which was the woman behind the desk when we checked very late. In general though, the staff seemed young and inexperienced and therefore the service seemed abrupt. This was exremely disappointing given the ownership.

Really are you joking... the prices for this glorified motel six. The only reason I didnt leave was the staff is so nice. So lets begin... TV didn't work (yes just like 1 star hotel) and they seemed ok with that - no transfer of rooms, no new tv, room service after 10pm - no one answers the phone, decor is cheap, no view, tree's etc. Food - i live in asia (the land of kale) why the h*ll would you put that on eggs bene? oh and no menu in the room so figure it our yourself. If the price was 200 a night - no problem but 700??? Shame on you. DONT DO IT! Auberge or Calistoga Ranch - not this place. But let me reiterate - the staff is GREAT the owner should be ashamed for his prices. And I feel like an idiot for paying it. Good Luck!

I went with two girlfriends for a long weekend and we all give it rave reviews. We are mid-thirties, all well-traveled, and found Solage to be fabulous all around. The customer service starts as soon as you drive up to check in - everything taken care of, the concierge was amazing and got us hooked up very last minute with some hard to get reservations and private wine tastings. It is quiet and relaxing. If you're looking for a social scene don't go. If you're looking to enjoy good company in a tranquil setting you'll love it. Bikes were great. Spa services were great although the spa was a little strange as the entrance to all treatment rooms are outside - it was cold while we were there so it was a very chilly walk - a little bizarre but still nice. We were in #28 and it was quiet and fabulous.

-Service is awful. Pool attendants ask you daily for your name and room number even when only 10 people go to the pool (like you jumped the fence). A local line cook remembered my breakfast sandwich the second time I went for no financial gain, but this hotel has no clue how to recognize guests even in the low early week period. Even worse, they make you daily prove your identify. It was our honeymoon and they knew ahead of time and did 0% for us $0.00. Don't expect even a glass of cheap champagne on the house or anything comped, not even half priced ap, etc.
-An affordable housing community is right over the fence. They have their place, but not next people paying $750 a night on their honeymoon. If it is nice out, kids nightly scream and play games. IF you want to relax in peace at night, you will hear this noise in your outdoor space.
-If you are social people, don't plan on staying here. Better off staying somewhere else. You have an easier time meeting people at local wineries and restaurants than here. No daily happy hour, nothing social planned, absolutely dead. But as stated above, without the sereneity and dead, what do you have? An overpriced hotel in a bad location with bad service.
--Housekeeping twice walked in on us to turn down the room despite our shouts to go away and stay out. Not sure if she was hearing impaired or wanted to wrap up work and go home at 5:30, but annoying.
--At checkout someone enjoyed a $50 breakfast on our tab. Another mistake, doubt it. I think the locals are onto the fact no one here knows what they are doing, so they see the number on the bikes in town and enjoy a breakfast on them.
--Landscaping is terrible inside the private fences. Think rock garden, without the garden and just bland rocks and a couple of twigs as plants. I'm all for green landscaping, but have a cactus or something then.
--Beware service charges. Walked up and bought $12 goggles by the pool and gave my room number. They tried to give us a bill for $19, the $12 was really $15 and there was a $4 service charge. seriously? how much did we pay for the room again?
--bikes for each room are a nice touch. One of the very few positives about this resort.
--The rooms on the inside are quite nice. If you are looking to roll around in bed, are willing to spend the money, and don't want to be bothered, this is your place. You'll get no service anyway. Ooops...they might walk in on you in the act. other than that.

Pros:

Restaurant: The restaurant is absolutely delicious!! Very low key, laid back and unpretentious. We had dinner at the restaurant one night, and the mushroom pasta and heirloom tomato salad there was phenomenal. It was light but flavorful and the ingredients were very fresh. I would say the restaurant was my favorite thing about the hotel.

Bicycles: We loved that cruiser bicycles that come with each room. We biked around Calistoga one day and it was such a pleasant feeling.

Rooms: We had the studio room, which looked exactly like the pictures on the hotel website. The room was comfortable, and the standing shower was nice and spacious, as was the sink area. I thought it was fine and functional. I liked that each room has its own patio with comfy chairs to lounge around on.

Pool: Huge olympics sized pool, which I did not use, but seemed like a great spot to lazy around in the afternoon.

Bathrobes: Most comfortable bathrobes hands down! They were lined with a super softt terrycotton that made me want to go out with it.

Cons:

Concierge:
We had some issues with the concierge. For example we asked the concierge to make reservations at several restaurants and wineries upon check in but we had to remind them the next morning to do so. In one particular instance, concierge had told us we did not need to make reservations for lunch, but we were turned away upon arrival at the restaurant since it was completely fully booked.

Rooms: Rooms are a bit dark because of the minimal motif and dark cement floor design.

Maid Service: Overall the rooms were tidy and well maid; however, on one day housekeeping disregarded the "Do Not Disturb" sign on our door, and entered to clean it while we were having breakfast. We had put the sign on the door because we did not pack up all our belongings before leaving the room that day.

Overall:
Overall we had a good stay, but for the price, I would probably stay elsewhere next time. I would rather stay in Yountville or St. Helena as well to be closer to the wineries and restaurants as Calistoga is a bit further out. I will, however, definitely make a trip out to the Solage again for the restaurant.

Good:

1. Great rooms, stylishly designed,a very comfortable bed and a nice terrace.
2. Nice toiletries for Mrs G.
3. Excellent, friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming staff.
4. Families and couples catered for very well with enough privacy and intimacy.
5. Superior Spa. 5* massage, facials and top products (Kate Somerville). Fair value.
6. Nice touch with bicycles for each villa.
7. Super hi-speed wi-fi in the room.

Bad:

1. We weren't warned about dinner finishing at 9pm on Sunday and had to order from the bar menu!
2. We couldn't stay longer!
