We stayed two nights in the Oakville room which was tastefully decorated and cozy. It also had a private entrance to a sitting area outside on the deck which was nice for enjoying the morning coffee or relaxing with a glass of wine in the evening. The Wine Way was a great place to stay if you are looking for a place within walking distance of town to restaurants and shops. The road noise was a minor annoyance but I guess expected given the location convenient to town. I can't say enough about the hospitality of the innkeepers. Nick was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and as mentioned many times in previous reviews, the breakfasts were fantastic! I couldn't help but get that 2nd serving of the honey-chardonnay stewed apricots! Also had a good time relaxing with a glass of wine on the deck chatting with some of the guests. Overall we were happy with our stay and would definitely recommend.

“Good potential...but disappointing”

Calistoga Wine Way Inn

My visit to Calistoga was the first time I had been to the California Wine Country. Wanting to take in the local flavor, I booked this Bed and Breakfast for one night. Despite the reviews that often talk of friendly and out-going owners, I believe I must have stumbled upon them during a rough time. At one point the kitchen door was slammed on the few guests eating breakfast, and I was barely able to have a few words with either of the owners until a few minutes before I left. Overall, I was quite disaopinted by the atmosphere, and did not feel the usual homey comforting atmosphere that I have previously experienced at other Bed and Breakfasts around the world (being an outgoing person who loves to hear stories from the interesting folk that tend to run such B&Bs!)

Again, I hope this was just an off day, as it would seem many other people have been quite happy, however for me, it put quite the damper on my short visit to the area!

Otherwise, the breakfast was as described in all other reviews - delicious and very comprehensive (if not a little awkward with no presence whatsoever from the owners). Road noise was not an issue, despite our room being close to the front. The in-room air temperature control was not great, as our fan was broken and made a horrible clicking sound, which we discovered too late in the night to wake essentially strangers! Despite the stifling heat that built up, the room was overall comfortable, although fairly small.

I can't say enough about the cooking at this B&B...perhaps they should open a restaurant! I would definitely return if this were the case!

We are sorry this guest did not get the kind of interaction with us they were looking for. Honestly, we are friendly and cheerful, we wouldn't run a Bed and Breakfast if we were not: We get great compliments and write ups in our guest book and on TripAdvisor saying how much people enjoyed their stay and the help they got from us.
It is sometimes dificult to make a connection with someone just staying one night. We always try to take our cues from our guests on how much interaction they want. Some folks love to chat and others have their days planned and don't much want to trade stories with us. We attempt to guage this and not push ourselves on the people who want to do their own thing.
Breakfast is not usually a time when we do get into long conversations because, firstly guests are usually having enjoyable conversations around the table which we don't want to interrupt and secondly we are busy making the breakfast!
There was also mention of the kitchen door slamming during breakfast which we do not understand as the kitchen door is usually open during breakfast as we are in and out with fresh coffee, checking everyone has everything they need etc. If the front door is opened while the kitchen door is ajar that could cause the door to slam but it's not something we would do.
As for the fan issue - I have checked all of the fans and I cannot find any problems or trace of clicking. It's possible that the button that switches the fan rotation on and off was not fully depressed but I couldn't replicate that. Things do go wrong and we fix them as soon as we know about them. It's a shame this guest didn't mention it during their stay.

“Comfortable B&B with great breakfast”

Calistoga Wine Way Inn

Jan 4, 2007

This was our first trip to Wine Country, so we knew little about the area. We stayed at the Wine Way Inn for three nights. The inn keepers, Gillian and Nick, are wonderful people. They provided us with a lot of information and guidance on the area, and how to focus our visit to maximize our experience. The breakfast was wonderful. Everything was freshly prepared, and plentiful.
We stayed in the Callistoga Room, which is a small cottage in the back of the inn. This cottage is separate from the rest of the hotel. It has a private bath (shower stall), and has its own outdoor sitting area. For a B & B, it offered a lot of privacy. The bed was comfortable, but overall the room a bit crowded for two of us. Everything was clean, but the furnishings and decore were a bit tired and worn out. This room could use a face lift (Compared to the rest of the house which appeared to be very nicely furnished).
The hotel is located on a very busy intersection. If the windows were closed, then it was not too noisy. But if you opened the windows for fresh air, you could definately hear the traffic.
The inn is within a short walking distance to downtown Callistoga, which was great for shopping and restaurants.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. We were a bit dissapointed with the layout of the room and decore. The excellent hospitality of the inn keepers made our stay well worth it.

We only stayed one night, but I missed it as soon as we left. Of all the B&B's I have been to, they had the most incredible food. We arrived around 5:30pm. There were these wonderful maple scones that melted in your mouth out for snacks as well as coffee, cherry and wine. We went to dinner at Go Fish, a new restaurant in St. Helena, that was very good. We left early the next day to go up north so our stay was very short. After having the breakfast, I was very sad to leave. It was incredible: plums with honey that were to die for, great quiche, muffins, etc. When we left and gave back our keys, I noticed there were already chocolate/raisin cookies out for snacks. The place is very quaint. It is very cozy and feels like home away from home. Everything was top notch.

We stayed in one of the smaller rooms to the front of the house facing highway 29. You could hear the cars drive by during the day, but it was really quiet when we slept at night. I hope to return to the Napa area. When we do, I will definitely stay here. I can't stop thinking about the scones....yum!!

“A perfect Napa Bed and Breakfast Experience”

We stayed at the Wine Way Inn for a long weekend to celebrate my wife's birthday. I found the wine way inn website extremely helpful in the decision and reservations process and would recommend it to anyone.

When we arrived we chatted with the owners and found them very helpful and knowledgable in recommending restaurants and wineries to visit, and even directed me to a wonderful local pottery shop, Calistoga Pottery, where I found the prefect birthday gift (actually gifts) for my wife.

The rooms were great (comfortable, clean, nicely appointed), the people were friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were unbelieveable! (worth the price of the room just by themselves).

No question this was a perfect choice and we will be back.
