My visit to Calistoga was the first time I had been to the California Wine Country. Wanting to take in the local flavor, I booked this Bed and Breakfast for one night. Despite the reviews that often talk of friendly and out-going owners, I believe I must have stumbled upon them during a rough time. At one point the kitchen door was slammed on the few guests eating breakfast, and I was barely able to have a few words with either of the owners until a few minutes before I left. Overall, I was quite disaopinted by the atmosphere, and did not feel the usual homey comforting atmosphere that I have previously experienced at other Bed and Breakfasts around the world (being an outgoing person who loves to hear stories from the interesting folk that tend to run such B&Bs!)
Again, I hope this was just an off day, as it would seem many other people have been quite happy, however for me, it put quite the damper on my short visit to the area!
Otherwise, the breakfast was as described in all other reviews - delicious and very comprehensive (if not a little awkward with no presence whatsoever from the owners). Road noise was not an issue, despite our room being close to the front. The in-room air temperature control was not great, as our fan was broken and made a horrible clicking sound, which we discovered too late in the night to wake essentially strangers! Despite the stifling heat that built up, the room was overall comfortable, although fairly small.
I can't say enough about the cooking at this B&B...perhaps they should open a restaurant! I would definitely return if this were the case!

We are sorry this guest did not get the kind of interaction with us they were looking for. Honestly, we are friendly and cheerful, we wouldn't run a Bed and Breakfast if we were not: We get great compliments and write ups in our guest book and on TripAdvisor saying how much people enjoyed their stay and the help they got from us.
It is sometimes dificult to make a connection with someone just staying one night. We always try to take our cues from our guests on how much interaction they want. Some folks love to chat and others have their days planned and don't much want to trade stories with us. We attempt to guage this and not push ourselves on the people who want to do their own thing.
Breakfast is not usually a time when we do get into long conversations because, firstly guests are usually having enjoyable conversations around the table which we don't want to interrupt and secondly we are busy making the breakfast!
There was also mention of the kitchen door slamming during breakfast which we do not understand as the kitchen door is usually open during breakfast as we are in and out with fresh coffee, checking everyone has everything they need etc. If the front door is opened while the kitchen door is ajar that could cause the door to slam but it's not something we would do.
As for the fan issue - I have checked all of the fans and I cannot find any problems or trace of clicking. It's possible that the button that switches the fan rotation on and off was not fully depressed but I couldn't replicate that. Things do go wrong and we fix them as soon as we know about them. It's a shame this guest didn't mention it during their stay.
