“The Real Deal!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2007

My girl friend and I live in SF and stayed at the Chanric for my birthday weekend. We felt the Inn was outstanding!!! I have traveled the world many times over always looking for the ideal place to stay - all I had to do was go the Chanric Inn in Calistoga.

The Inn exceeded our expectations - from the decor to the fabulous breakfast which we had outside on the patio next to the fountain. Channing and Ric are great hosts and do their best accommodate all guest requests. I highly recommend the Chanric - you won't be disappointed!

My husband and I wanted to visit the Napa region and decided to stay in the Calistoga area. What a great town! Located in the northern part of Napa Valley, it allows for easy access to all wineries, shops and restaurants.

The Chanric Inn exceeded our expectations - from the simple, but sophisticated decor, to the fabulous gourmet breakfast carefully prepared for us each morning. The inn is beautifully designed and well appointed. You can chose to have breakfast in the dining room adjacent to the open kitchen, which allows for a lively exchange between guests and proprietors each morning, or step outside to beautiful stone patio with a fountain and listen to birds sing as you sip your morning coffee.

Channing and Ric keep the place spotless and find ways to accommodate all guest requests. They are well liked in town and knowledgeable of all services that the area has to offer. They share this information, guiding their guests to the best local spa services, shopping, unique wineries and of course restaurants. All recommendations we received from them were top notch.

The pool and hot tub were an added bonus. We went to bed totally relaxed each evening and woke up in the morning refreshed and hungry for that gourmet breakfast!

A stay with Channing and Ric at the Chanric Inn is worth the trip - highly recommended.

  • Liked — The inn owners - they run a top notch operation and personalize each guest's stay
  • Disliked — Honestly, nothing - we liked it all!

My fiance and I spent two nights at the Chanric Inn for our wedding. We are not into doily, fussy B&Bs and chose the Chanric specifically because of its clean, modern, sleek decor. I can not say enough about how relaxed and welcoming the Chanric is and how perfectly the atmosphere and appointments suited us.

Ric and Channing are incredibly gracious hosts and went out of their way to assist us when one of our boxes for our wedding did not arrive. They were so accommodating, they even allowed us to use their library to assemble our guests' welcome bags. We felt completely at ease, like we were visiting old friends in a terrific house.

Like the other posts say, you'll enjoy a very comfortable bed with quality linens, Frette towels, delicious, gourmet breakfasts, complimentary beverages, and great hospitality.

You'll be glad you booked! We certainly are. Thank you Channing and Ric!

Simply Wonderful! No other words can be used to describe the 5 night stay my wife and I enjoyed here last week in celebration of both our 50th birthdays. We began planning our Napa trip last November or so, and spent weeks on the internet viewing all kinds of places for our accommodation. Our only hesitation came from the fact we had never stayed in a bed & breakfast in all our years of travel. However, some
invisible force kept drawing us back to the Chanric Inn, and I am glad we followed our instincts and booked it. Pay no attention to the
reviews prior to early 2006, as it was under different ownership then, had not yet been renovated, and is not really applicable now. Suffice it to say that Channing and Ric are marvelous hosts, and this
Victorian house just north of Calistoga is a wonderful place to call home during your visit to wine country. It sits up on a hill with a view of the mountains from the front porch. I did not mind the minor traffic noise at all and do not consider it a distraction. My own house sits closer to the street. If you want to grab a morning bagel and run in 5 minutes, you might be disappointed. Because this place encourages you to slow down and enjoy the moment. Breakfasts each morning are unhurried affairs, with an ever-changing menu of delicious cuisine. Imagine waking each morning to the smell of muffins or scones baking in the oven. You get 3 courses here each day, with the baked goods followed by a fruit dish (one day wonderfully fresh melon with prosciutto), and then an egg dish (our first was parmesan toast topped with sautéed mushrooms, chive eggs, and wilted chard). It all comes with coffee, tea, and juice. The menu
changes daily (and appears framed on the counter the afternoon before
to entice you) and the breakfast is something to be enjoyed over an hour or more. Eat inside by the new kitchen, or enjoy it outside on the patio with the flowers and foliage and fellow guests. Talk with them and share stories of the previous day’s activities. We never seem to do that in any anonymous hotel. Here Ric cooks and Channing serves you. The New York Times and San Francisco Chronicle are there to read each morning. As others have said, there is a refrigerator with water, soda, beer, and wine there for you to pick from any time you want. Morning coffee is also brought upstairs early and placed on a tray on a corner table so you can sneak out of your room and get a cup early. This old house has been updated in a soft understated modern look; think Pottery Barn and not frilly Victorian.
Nice muted colors. There are beautiful old wood floors. Our king bed was wonderfully comfy, with soft sheets and a plush duvet. Small but nice bath, with all the things you need, including large fluffy towels. There is also a nice sized pool with a separate spa. You have robes in your closet to use. Note that there are no phones or televisions in your room, but who cares? You are here to relax and enjoy the solitude. Just sit outside on the front porch and snooze, or read a book and sip a glass of wine. Relax on the swing on the patio. If you can’t leave your computer at home (we did) the place does have wi-fi. Ric and Channing become immediate friends and are perfect hosts. They will do anything to make your stay even more enjoyable, and will arrange reservations and visits for you. I just cannot give enough praise to this wonderful place. Our visit included
plenty of winery tours, great restaurants, shopping, spa time, and periods of quiet relaxation at the Inn. We are already thinking of planning a return trip to Napa, hopefully within 2-3 years, and there is absolutely no way we will stay anywhere else but here. Thanks guys for a wonderful visit! Book this place without hesitation
as there is a good reason why every review has a 5 rating.

My partner and I loved the place. She couldn't stop talking about the breakfast and I was thoroughly impressed with the help that Channin and Ric gave us.

Attention to detail won me over. Little things were all covered (restaurant reservations, appts to vineyards, special needs, vegetarian meals, remembered my name when I called).

It is a bit pricy, but you get what you pay for, and that's a very good night sleep and an excellent breakfast.

Didn't hurt that drinks soda (coke, rootbeer, pepsi), wines (sauv. blanc, my favorite), beers (IPA, Corona, Bud, Heffe), water (bottled or ice water always full), teas (all kinds, eg, cham..et) in the kitchen were complimentary and fully stocked.

Location, in the grand scheme of things, was perfect. Farther out, but still near some GREAT small vineyards and wineries.

There are a few qualms about its proximity to the road, it's about a good 150-200 feet from the main road, you can hear the cars go by if it's really busy, but it's not that bad, unless you want perfect silence. A heater could make more noise.

Again, attention to detail made it a wonderful stay, definitely going to recomend to friends and family.

Save time. No need to look beyond the Chanric. Just book your stay now because you will not find a more romantic, comfortable, pampering B & B.

My husband and I spent five outstanding nights at the Chanric. The entire property was impeccably kept: the hot tub and pool, the grounds, the common space, the rooms. The common space was welcoming and relaxing. Our room was beautiful. The bed was cozy. The brunches were fantastic and, as we discovered in our travels, legendary among locals!

We enjoyed serene and picturesque running routes each morning compliments of Channing. The local bike shop is close with plenty of challenging and scenic cycling routes as my husband experienced. After a workout, the hot tub was a well-earned reward.

Many of our most enjoyable destinations for wine tasting and dining were recommended and arranged by Ric and Channing. They know the area well and are happy to do anything they can to help with planning, directions, reservations, etc.

The Chanric Inn is a perfect place to stay while enjoying the sights and tastes of the Napa Valley. We are already looking forward to our next stay!

Recently spent four days at the Chanric and it is delightful! In addition to all the great [and factual] comments made by other reviewers, let me add a note about the pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. Channing and Ric really make you feel well cared for and it is obvious that they want your visit to be a great one. Some points that may have not been mentioned in the other reviews: great location - within walking distance to downtown Calistoga which has some nice places to eat. If visiting wineries, Calistoga is going against traffic for the most part. The rooms are a good size and have wonderful fluffy [SOFT] towels....Also, the Inn is nice and quiet ...no noise from adjoining rooms - no toilet flushing sounds in the night. I can't imagine that there is a better place to stay in all of the Napa area. Three course breakfast prepared by a professional chef, coffee/tea available every morning outside the door, VERY comfortable beds, my husband had no difficulty logging onto the internet. We heartily recommend the Chanric Inn and are looking forward to our next visit.
