“Treated like royalty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

My wife and I stayed at the Chanric Inn Jul 28-30 and could not have been happier. Jim and Joel were there to take care of all of our needs. Like others have said we found the breakfast to be incredible and a wonderful way to start out day. Joel was there to talk to and we loved our morning conversations with him.

After a day filled with wine tastings it was nice to come back to the Inn to enjoy another lovely wine with freshly made canapés. Once again Joel was there to keep our wine glasses full and canapés supplied. He recommended and made reservations at 3 incredible restaurants for the nights we were there.

Our room was fantastic and were happy to be downstairs. The bed was very comfortable with all of the linens perfect. We loved looking at all of their French pictures and antiques! Their gardener was there every morning and kept their gardens impeccable.

We could not have been happier with our stay at the Chanric Inn. We have told all of our friends and many are looking at the Inn as their base for their visit to Napa Valley. We look forward to our next trip to see our friends Joel and Jim. We were treated like royalty for 3 days and we loved every second. We can't wait to go back!

We loved our stay at the Chanric Inn! There is so much attention to detail ...the warm personal greeting with champagne & petite appetizers, the artwork, the chic décor, the eclectic, yet warm ambiance of the sitting area and rooms. You feel as though you are staying at a B & B in France! At first glance from the outside, the B&B seems quite simple. However, once you walk inside and tour the grounds, you will see how enchanting and special The Chanric Inn truly is. The landscape is so beautiful and simple. There are outdoor patios to lounge or enjoy breakfast and drinks. There is a pool and spa in the back of the property as well.
Jim & Joel spoiled us by serving us a wonderful breakfast the next morning of cappuccino, fresh squeezed juice (peaches & pineapple), fresh berries with coconut cream, homemade bread & jam and baked oysters! Not a typical B & B breakfast!
We highly recommend The Chanric Inn and cannot say enough about our stay. We hope to return again soon!

We love that you felt like you were at a B&B in France! This is exactly the kind of ambiance we love to create. In Europe, as you know we take advantage of down time to really enjoy life with good food, good wine and good company! We are happy that you enjoyed your time with us and we hope to see you soon. A bientot!

From the moment that you step through the door of what looks like an unassuming private house at the side of the road, you feel that you are finally where you have been waiting to come to all your life! Everything, literally everything, about this place is so special from the quality of the beds, to the furniture and fittings, the lovely secluded pool, the romantic patio, the peace and quiet. And then there is the food. And then there is the champagne which flows into your glass every time you're not looking; thank you Joel. And then there is the service. Nothing is too much trouble - including tracking down an emergency dentist. We travelled back to San Francisco via a superb lunch in a restaurant overlooking the Russian River at the recommendation of our hosts. Thank you to both of you.

Room Tip: They are all lovely

"Heaven on Earth" — what a beautiful compliment! Thank you so much to take the time to write this beautiful review! Yes, we pride ourselves in the small things and we feel that they really make a difference. To hear that you loved everything from the pool to the food to the champagne really makes us feel great. I'm also very happy that you enjoyed the Russian River meeting the Ocean, it's one of our favorite spot when we want to escape! We look forward to seeing you again soon!

We stayed at the Chanric Inn Jul 21 and 22 and were delighted. Jim and Joel are gracious and warm hosts who quietly take care of one's every need. They serve champagne and wine in the evening with small and delightful appetizers. Breakfast is a four course affair with freshly squeezed juice (pear, apple, mint and white grape), a fruit dish (cherries in cabernet), home made and hot croissants as rich and flaxy as those in Paris, a hot dish (halibut brandande) and a refreshing fruit dessert (blueberries in a coconut cream). Joel, one of the hosts, shared that they used to own a restaurant and their expertise in cooking is obvious.

The rooms are extraordinary. Elegant but comfortable with polished wood floors and fine linens and fresh, plumb pillows. The bed is super comfortable and the room was full of beautiful pictures, antiques and fresh flowers. I'd also report that the entire home is spotless; it is the cleanest most well cared for B&B I have ever visited.

Finally, our hosts Jim and Joel have perfected the art of comfort. They are thoughtful hosts who are always inquiring as to your needs. Joel secured an evening dinner reservation for us at a local exclusive restaurant which we had been unable to get through opentable. They are constantly and quietly available and thoughtfully anticipate one's needs with an offer of water, coffee, wine in the evening, an extra towel at the pool, etc.

I give this B&B the highest recommendation. Go, enjoy, relax!

The Chanric Inn is an oasis of comfort, modern luxury and taste without a trace of standard B&B dowdiness (not a Laura Ashley pattern in sight). Messieurs Joel and Jim are wonderfuly gracious hosts who offer you gourmandises, tasty bites and champagne at every turn (8:50 am or 8:50 pm).

The Inn underwent a major makeover in the past year, and what a difference! The main room is now open and airy with a chic staircase, the back patio is a delight (no gravel that gets stuck in your summer sandals) with a relaxing patio couch next to a soothing wall of water, and the new bathrooms make me want to remodel my bathrooms at home.

While the Inn is located on a major road, this is a Napa road, ie, not the 405 freeway (nor the Silverado trail that has more traffic going at much faster speeds). My husband and I brought up our bikes and felt very comfortable riding from & to the innn, into downtown Calistoga and to other highlights in the area.

The breakfasts were superb. PERIOD.

Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: by "fitness Center" I mean massage treatment room & pool/hot-tub.

We stayed at The Chanric Inn June 29 - July 2 for a relaxing birthday get-away with my sister and her husband in Calistoga. I was so pleasantly surprised by the refined, modern ambiance, gracious hospitality, to-die-for brunch, and value of our Hot Air Balloon Package for Couples. Proprietors Joel and Jim catered to our every whim. Joel brought a delicious appetizer tray resembling art up to the pool with wine (all with lines, glasses, and plates) when we were relaxing there in the heat of the afternoon. He also was kind enough to bring us a bucket of various chilled waters to the pool as well earlier in the day. Besides the outstanding attention to every detail, the accommodations were superb - comfy king size beds, soft fluffy towels and robes, plenty of storage space for our clothes in the closet and dressers, newly remodeled bath and fixtures, delicious assortment of fine chocolates every evening at turn down, and hot coffee/tea service at 7:30 AM outside our room to hold us over until the 8:30 - 10:30 brunch period. The brunch was unbelievable! Freshly diced sweet pineapple marinated in Gran Marnier, salmon bites on a bed of broccoli mouse, sliced cherries with home-made verbena ice cream, and so much more. Many of the dishes incorporated herbs straight from the beautiful, tranquil garden. We enjoyed brunch on the patio each morning and delighted in watching hummingbirds and blue jays bathing in the water fountain. On the day of our arrival we were greeted with a champagne tour of the facilities, which are far nicer than the website photos reveal. In our room a hand-written card awaited, wishing me a happy birthday weekend and listed the itinerary for our 60-minute couples massage, dinner, and hot air balloon ride. The massages were heavenly - done just to our liking for our bodies. The amazing hot air balloon ride included transportation to and from the Inn and a delicious lunch at the Michelin-rated SolBar Restaurant - no box lunch here! Joel even arranged to have a surprise birthday cake for me when we returned from dinner, fully lit when we arrived "home" on a Wedgwood plate with glasses of champagne at the ready. We couldn't help but dance. We enjoyed Jim and Joel's company during our celebration. When we sadly had to leave, Joel assisted us with luggage, offered us some water for the road and made sure waved us good-bye as he would any good friend. We can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Rooms on the bottom floor are cooler on hot days.

My husband and I just spent two nights at this B&B. We love staying in unique places when we travel and this fit the bill. It is a beautiful old home but is updated in a chic modern way. I love the decor because, I have to say, I get a little overwhelmed by floral wallpaper, and bedding, and rugs, etc, that you might find in your usual B&B. The bed is comfortable, bathroom clean and room has all you need. As for breakfast, here's an example - We started with cappuccino followed by fresh melon in cognac sauce, next we had salmon on broccoli mousse with a maple/soy glaze and ended with blueberries and blackberries in coconut cream. The small servings were perfect -one amazing bite after another. A great start to a day of wine tasting. Finally, we purchased a package that included a couples massage with Sue and PJ and they were fantastic. Easy going experts! Enjoy the Chanric Inn.

Room Tip: We stayed in room number 1 upstairs. If we get a chance to return I'd request a room downstairs...
