“Very Comfortable, felt like home.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2009

We travel a lot and when you walk into a place and immediately feel comfortable, I think that speaks volumes. Privacy is a non issue as the rooms each have their own private entrance. CasaLana is in easy walking distance to the center of town and with the property tucked back in the neighborhood you feel more like one of the locals and less like a tourist. It's also very quite unlike some of the hotels in Nappa. Lana was a perfect host serving us tasty breakfasts and making suggestions on wineries to visit and places to eat. We would stay there again in a heart beat and hopefully next time we will be able to work our schedules to get into her cooking classes.

Out stay here was nothing but relaxing and enjoyable. Lana was a gracious host and it was fun getting to know her. Her breakfasts were delicious and the experience was like sitting around your own kitchen table. We truly plan to visit again.

My husband purchased a two day culinary experience for me as a birthday gift. I had been wanting to do this for some time and was thrilled at the opportunity. We chose Casa Lana because of the intimate class size and location of the property. Lana was so wonderful to cook with. She not only teaches you the specific recipe, she offers great alternatives to them as well. We will be keeping our eye on her calendar to do this again soon.

I recommend staying at the B&B if there is room as well. The facility is beautiful and the breakfast was tasty.

Thanks Lana for making our experience enjoyable and memorable. We will certainly be seeing you again!

Lana Richardson runs a wonderful business, and her heart is clearly in it. We took two days of cooking classes and stayed at the B&B in the upstairs room with a fantastic view overlooking a river, garden, and huge trees. The room was spacious, clean, and quiet. The bathroom is large with a relaxing place for a bath and a large separate shower. We enjoyed roaming the gardens, teaming with fruit and vegetables, some of which make an appearance in the cooking classes. Lana made us healthy right-sized breakfasts, a welcome change from the usual hotel fare. We sat outside on the patio overlooking the garden, watching the birds. The cooking classes made use of the local vegetables and fruits in season and were fun and inspiring. Lana has a beautiful, large kitchen, and so we could each have our own station to work at (there were four of us students). We also did some grilling on a grill outside. Lana was great at teaching the basic techniques and then letting us try it, giving guidance along the way. We ate our meals together, and it was very rewarding. I really appreciated the attention to healthy, practical meals--something we could really bring home and try again. Lana gave us some great suggestions of places to visit in the area, and we enjoyed being able to walk to downtown Calistoga.-- L.S.

We spent half a week at this place for a cooking class and stayed in one of the rooms. The breakfast was excellent and the class was great. Highly recommend it!

Great location near the Napa wineries. Lana was very accomodating to our early arrival. The room was really nice and spotless. Breakfast on Sunday morning was wonderful - out near the garden, really interesting, home made food. Will definitely be going back.

For my thirtieth birthday, my parents paid for a culinary vacation to Napa Valley. I spent a year researching the options and chose Casa Lana because I felt it was the best way to get the experience I needed to improve my cooking. The course did not disappoint!

I signed up for the Boot Camp experience and boot-camp-like it was, California style, that is. We spent five glorious days preparing dishes to die for and learning the basic techniques of preparation and cooking. There was a lot of information exchanged, and Lana took great pains to create a take-home binder that recounted each step so we novices didn't feel lost once back in our own kitchens.

Lana is knowledgeable and experienced; there wasn't a question I had she couldn't answer (and I had a LOT of questions). She was quick to offer supplemental books to read, and shared loads of cooking secrets, those not-in-a-book-kind of tips that make cooking such a pleasure (and a pain).

For me, the best part was a planned excursion to Chalk Hill that was, well, life changing. Chalk Hill is incredible. The food, the conversation with the chef, the grounds -- the GARDEN!

We stayed with Lana at Casa Lana the final Friday and Saturday of our trip. The accommodations were perfect: convenient to town and the valley wineries, reasonably priced, and quiet. (The high thread-count sheets and double-fluff bed wasn't bad either.)

I continually commented to my significant other that it felt as though we were in Italy what with the gorgeous weather and parallel landscape. And, isn't that what a vacation is about: being transported someplace far from ordinary life?

I would recommend the cooking courses at Casa Lana and staying with Lana without hesitation.
