“relaxing day”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

Went on a Saturday with girlfriends to experience mud spa. Did not know what to expect due to differing opinions from people I have talked to. We booked on a group rate of $58 for mudspa, mineral bath and pool access. This was a great deal because most places in the area charge 4x the rate minus the massage. Massage cost about $99 for 1 hr or around $67 for half. Try to book your massage early because it fills up fast.
The mud spa takes about 10-15 min. Make sure you arrive on time because they will take time off your alloted time. The mud is made up of peat moss and volcanic ash up to 105 degrees. It has the smell of sulfuric acid. At the beginning I felt quite nervous due to the heat but after awhile it was very relaxing. If you have aches and pains from arthritis, this may be a good way to relax those achy joints.
After the mud spa, you rinse off and them go to the mieral bath for about 20 min. The bath is infused with minerals like peppermint or othe botanicals. Then you go to the hot sauna for about 5 min. The wrap is the final stage in the process which is just a cool down on a bed with a blanket.
The place provides you with a locker to store your things and plenty of spa mineral water. Bring plastic bags for your wet outfit and flip flops if using the pool. Our group decided to bring food for a small picnic at the pool. The place provides tables and chairs and has a fire pit at night.
There are 3 kinds of pool. A circular pool for adults only due to the hot spring. A square pool for medium spring water and a lap pool for tepid water.
Saturdays are crowded. Housekeeping needs to keep up with the disposal of used towels.
The place is very close to downtown Calistoga with so many restaurant to choose from. Maybe next time we'll stay here overnight.

We had a wonderful and well needed 2 day say at the Spa. Sunshine and rest, great massage and soak in the pools. Couldn't believe the sunshine, just what we needed. We stayed in a recently renovated King room and it is wonderful. Never got in the car once, picnicked on the patio and walked around town and back to the pools. It was wonderful!

We stayed here for a week. The pools were wonderful and definitely made it worth staying here. However, they allow people who are not staying there to pay a fee to use the pools. Luckily we stayed while school was in session so they were not that busy. The rooms were nice. It was great to have a refrigerator and microwave in the room. Clean restrooms. Within walking distance of numerous restaurants and bars.

Room Tip: No elevators so you have to walk up stairs with your luggage for second floor rooms.

Calistoga Hot Springs and Spa is the best place for families and friend to meet for swimming, hot tubing, and getting treatments! The newly renovated rooms are more expensive but much easier on the eyes than the 1980's look from before. We always enjoy staying there. The healing waters are the best!!

Went to Calistoga with friends. The room was booked by my friend. Venue was basic yet nice. Same was true of the rooms. The real draw for me were the pools and spa services. Both of which I used. The mud bath was great! I followed up with a massage by Joe. His massage was GREAT! One day I had a foot reflexology treatment. I enjoyed that too. The one draw back were the kids that felt the need to scream and parents who seemed okay with that. In my mind Calistoga is a place of rejuvenation. Screaming kids are NOT a part of that process.

Went with friends, kids and grandkids. A very family friendly spot. Don't go to this place if you don't want to be around family's with kids. Rooms have small but functional kitchens Great restaurants and shopping within an easy walk. Full spa services available and lot's of top notch wine tasting nearby.

Room Tip: no elevator, so ground floor if you have a lot of luggage
