“LOVE IT!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2012

Excellent small independent converted motor lodge.Classic 50' era Hollywood motor lodge is now hip trendy motel right in the middle of Burbank Tocula Lake area. Warners Brothers studio is within eye shot. Excellent neighborhood and eatery choices within walking distance.Parking is not an issue and I feel very safe parking behind the building.Rooms are very nice and very comfortable. Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries. Slept great. A bargain price for what you get. Desk staff genuinely nice and great service. You can not go wrong here!!! I would come back in a heart beat. Pastries and Coffee machine in lobby are very good. NOT your normal chain experience. This place is special as are the people who operate it!

Room Tip: The front desk will do almost anything for you. just ask.

I searched for weeks for a hotel in L.A. that cost under $150/night. Several I read reviews on charged for parking, internet-in addition to nightly rates. I could not justify fitting that into our budget for a place we merely wanted to rest our head at night...and grab a shower in the morning.
Tangerine Hotel is great for this purpose. It's definitely a motel, but rooms are clean, newly remodeled, staff are friendly, & internet & parking are free! Plus they get pastries from a local bakery every morning that are wonderful!!! We dealt with Maria at the front desk the entirety of our stay (2 nights). She excels at her job- going out of her way to ensure that we could find parking behind the building (very safe-well lit area-easily accessible to wheel luggage in). Maria also helped us with dinner recommendations when we came in late & directed us to a few local attractions during our brief visit. When you're in L.A.- or Burbank, this is a great place to rest your head if you're planning to go to local game shows. Location is great, facility is above average for a motel & staff are friendly and well informed. $110/night is more than what I wanted to pay, but unfortunately you won't find anything much cheaper in L.A.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the ground floor...then you don't have to carry your luggage up stairs. -Tur...

Spent one night at this property. It is for sure a Motel 6 style place, but they did an amazing job of fixing it up! Really impressed.

Imagine if they shoved a Four Star hotel into a Motel 6. That is what you get.

Small room with a small bathroom. I was by myself, so it was not a problem. A bit noisy with street noise.

Overall, VERY impressed. And the price is right!

Free parking and free wifi.

Will stay here again for sure.

This place is a pretty good example how to re-vamp an average motel into modern.
The Tangerine was my first choice as it offered modern rooms, nice ambience, Wi-Fi and a location that was close to most points I wanted to get to. Sure, if you are a Hollywood tourist, this wouldn't be the place to stay. But for me as traveller, everything was optimo.

Plus:
All of the described was provided in best condition. Fast Wi-Fi, great bed with hard mattresses, just as I like it. Modern all-in all, even with docking station for my iPhone.
Attentive staff, great pastries from the cafe opposite the motel for breakfast. Perfect.

Minus:
One of the the things this place saved money is a soundproof isolation. The Tangerine still has the old room doors that make you hear almost everything happening on the street. I don't care that much, but it gives you a lighter sleep. Furniture also looks modern but of cheap quality, shown through many marks and scratches on shelves. But that's a minor eyesore.

All in all, great place, would surely stay here again. Price could be a bit lower, but it's generally affordable.

Me and my wife stayed there for 2 nights, and the hotel was excellent.
we found the hotel through the trip advisor app and lucky for us there was one room left...
the location is great, a 5 minute drive to universal studios, and another 5 to hollywood.
Rooms were large and clean and the staff was friendly.

You’ve surely noticed the great hipster comments about the Tangerine and its groovy wonderfulness. And yes, if you’ve never stayed in a roadside motel before, you’re likely to find it appealing. For a moment at least.

It is a motel. Painted to look like a hipster motel. Ooo, cool. This motel is orange, and there’s a blue wall in my bedroom. Gosh, Daddy-o, that makes it all so swank.

Nope. It’s still a motel. Motel beds. Pitiful motel bathroom and window unit AC. Swimming pool in the parking lot right off the sidewalk where the other hipster wannabes gather to say things like “bust a moby,” and “darn right, Buster.”

Oh, they do have a cool coffee machine in the lobby that makes all kinds of cool coffee drinks, like espresso and latte and chai and cocoa. They all taste exactly the same, but maybe that’s what the hipsters are into.

If you wanted a retro writer’s experience of roadside kitsch, then you’d be wise to stay somewhere, well, authentic, rather than a marketing experiment.

It is cheaper that most options in the area, and it’s not a chain (thank you). It is also convenient to NBC and several studios, but don’t imagine that’s where you’d stay if you actually had business there. You’d stay at a nice hotel.
