“Self-Service Wine Bar!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

Clever self-service set up for dispensing 50+ different wines - you use a key card to track your purchases of full glass, half glass or tasting portions of as many wines as you like (note: this can be hazardous to your wallet). The small plates we tried were very, very good, but beware the jalapenos on the Ahi sashimi - they destroy your wine palate.

“Highs and lows”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

This restaurant is a ton of fun with it's variety of wines that you can choose how many ounces you want in your glass. During the wine harvest season it is really cool because you can watch all the wine makers at work from the birds eye view from the restaurant. I have been here before and had a wonderful experience- the last time I ate here it was dead. This time it was more crowded. There was a wonderful band playing. The service was nothing exceptional though. Our salads we started with, Roasted Almond and Apple and the Organic Mixed Greens were excellent- fresh and with wonderful, light dressings. The steak, a Rib-Eye was cooked too rare (ordered medium rare and I will even eat something rarer than that, but it was VERY rare). The pizza was good- Artichokes, Sundried Tomatoes, Kalamata Olives, Basil Oil, Feta. We also had wine and beer (all of which were excellent). We live in Buellton and will go back, just not with the exuberance that we go to other local restaurants with, as we feel more special at the other local restaurants from the service- the servers knowing we are local in the area usually go out of there way to make the dining experience personal and special at all the other restaurants. Maybe it was just an off night, though. The price points for the food are excellent for the quality served.

“Hidden Treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

Avant was a real treat - loved the "wine bar" concept modeled after the current yogurt shop craze...
Food & service was excellent! Easy way to taste several different kinds. Although not located easily & found at the end of a business district, once found, it's easy to fall in love with this place! Now my favorite restaurant in sleepy Buellton!

“Fantastic Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

If you are into variety, this will probably be your favorite place — for at least the first 2 or 3 times you go.
The good things about this place are all the different things you can try in a relatively short period of time. I would recommend setting aside at least 3 or 4 hours to get a really good dose of variety. From the wine to the food, you can experience many different tastes and combinations.
Another reviewer mentioned that there way no human interaction - I disagree. The 2 times we went we had very engaging conversations — with the hostess and waitresses — about wines and parings.
You get what amounts to a charge card for your wine selections and you can get a taste, a half-glass or a full glass of whatever you choose. To me this makes for a very fun experience.
The only thing that may be a bit off-putting is the rareness of the sliders. We had them on both occasions so I'm pretty sure it wasn't just a matter of inconsistency. Personally I like meat on the rare side, and both times it was OK, but if the sight of blood makes you squeamish, you might want to talk to your waiter/waitress before ordering these.
The food is a bit on the pricey side, but we expected that and feel that it was worth it.
There was live music (1 or 2 local musicians hanging out in the corner) that also added to the atmosphere.
You can tour of the wine making area if yoy wish.
I look forward to our next visit.

“A Nice Evening Out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

The food was good, and the wine selection was over the top. We just had to be careful not to try too many as our bill would've been crazy. It was a relaxed and casual atmosphere, we'll go again.
