We rode into Bridgeport early this June (2007) after being detoured south of Topaz Lake. The winds in the area where horrendous (we were on a motorcycle) and we were diverted to a highway that actually came into Bridgeport the back way that ended up at the south end of town and near the Lodge. The diversion was due to a major fire along Hwy 395.
We made it to Bridgeport by the skin of our teeth. The winds were so horrible that we felt we would crash any moment, but stopping the motorcycle would have meant we would have been dumped anyway.
Safely at the lodge I walked into the office and inquired about a room. I was told there were two rooms left and they were $130. I took the room basically since I could ride no further in the winds and just wanted to rest from such a stressing ride. After we paid and walked into the room, we were NOT impressed.
This place calls itself a lodge, but make no mistake: its a hotel. It is nothing special and quite frankly I feel it was grossly overpriced. The rooms may be called 'rustic' by some, but it was more the fact that it was simply so old.
I used to work on top of Conway Summit 20 years ago and know Bridgeport well. Though I never had to rent a room there, I understood it was a great destination for fishing and other outdoor activities. But for a 'hotel' to call itself a 'lodge' is funny since I don't remember seeing anything that resempled a 'lodge'. I'm pretty outdoorsy (we went on to camp out for 18 days of 22 in our four state ride via Grand Canyon) but I would not recommend this place simply because it's overpriced for a 'lodgy' hotel room.
Friendly staff and coffee machine in the room. Beautiful surroundings. It was quite cold (snowed on nearby peaks) in early June. Heated by baseboard electric heating that either burns you out of the room, or just turn it off and get cold. And they dry you out terribly.
Its not that this place is bad, its just too little for too much money.
Save your money and find another room in town. They're all about the same in quality but they differ quite a bit in price.
