“Not as good as I had hoped.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

We had noted this place on a previous drive through this town. The old hotel is picturesque; the lobby represents well the historic nature of the place. We stayed in one of the motel-like rooms in the back building. The internet did not work in our room; we had to go to the office---and it was closed one day during our visit. The electric heater in our room made a lot of noise, and the room was quite cold when we first arrived. The room did not have adequate lighting. Furniture style was from maybe the mid-50s but was utilitarian, Prices in the restaurant seemed high, but the rack of lamb that I had was the best I have ever had--and a complete rack unlike much smaller portions I have seen elsewhere. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed our second night in Bridgeport. The website has conflicting information about which day the restaurant is open. The staff was pleasant.

Thanks for your review. We do update parts of our motel building each year during the winter when the Inn is closed. This year it will be the motel furniture. Our restaurant is always closed on Wednesdays and our website does cover that. Unfortunately, some of the internet marketers that provide reservations for us do not always make it clear that we are closed on Wednesdays. Glad you chose the rack of lamp. It's a popular dish, as is our prime rib. Hope you come again. Bob Peters, Owner

The Bridgeport Inn is a place that you'll want to stay at once, just for the atmosphere. It is old, but well-maintained. The rooms are small, but bright. The facilities are adequate. The downstairs bar looks like a John Wayne movie set. The stairs leading to the rooms on the second floor are steep and narrow - not recommended for older guests. The staff go out of their way to be friendly.

Room Tip: Stay in the old main building, not the motel out back

We stayed in the original hotel at the Bridgeport Inn 10-07-13. Staff was courteous and rooms were clean. Showers were tiny even for an average size man. Forget it if you're a fatty! $3.95 dining coupons for the downstairs restaurant didn't go very far as a glass of orange juice was about all it would cover. Food must have been good to justify their menu prices. We opted to go about a block or so for good food for considerably less than the Bridgeport Inn menu price. Make sure you have plenty of gas because the Bridgeport gas station bandits are charging over $5.00 a gallon for regular. That always irritates me even if we don't need to buy any.

Room Tip: No suggestions.

Thanks for the review. The dining coupon does get you a hot breakfast and free coffee. And, if can't stay for breakfast you can use the coupon as credit toward any menu item at lunch or dinner. Menu prices are based on our quality. No one else charges less for the same quality.

Our rooms in the historic hotel were built in 1877 for miners and cowboys. The bathrooms were added in the 1920's. Most folks really love the experience. We also have large rooms with two or three full size beds in our motel building.

Hope you come again, and fill-up before arrival in Bridgeport.

Ended up leaving the establishment. The guy at front desk scared me teriibly! Was only allowed to use one of the beds in the room, and he was insistant on which side of the room we could sleep on. He reminded me of Norman Bates!!! Very outdated and smelly. I would run from this Inn.

It's difficult to comment on the complaints of this guest. The only "guy" at the front desk is an owner. The rest of our front desk staff are women. I can assure all travelers that we don't restrict our guests to any specific bed. I did email this guest to obtain more information because I wasn't sure she actually stayed at our Inn. Did not receive any response. We have a lot of very positive reviews. And, we get some accurate critical reviews. We also get a few some strange reviews. We respond to them all. Bob Peters, Owner.

We stayed in the Bridgeport on our way from Las Vegas to San Francisco. The price was very reasonable and the rooms perfectly clean. A nice bustling environment of travellers staying, we didn't eat in the inn but instead went across the road to the Rhino bar and grill. This wasn't anything against the inn's restaurant it was just a personal choice. Would stay here again on a similar journey.

We stayed at the motor inn portion of the inn, not the cute old building, because we were traveling with a dog.

The motor inn is very cute and retro looking. The rooms are small, very old furnishings but comfortable. There is a nice big TV and free wi-fi in the room. The inn is in an L shape and has a cute wooden walkway with some chairs outside of the units. It is nice to sit out at night, lots of people go by and you can get drinks and food at their bar/restaurant and take them back to your room.

The actual inn was an old stagecoach stop. They have a very cute little lobby, dining room and bar. The office is full of antiques and looks like a living room. Super cute.

The staff is super friendly and aim to please. We purchased dinner and took it back to the room, it was super.

For a historical hotel in the middle of nowhere, this place was great. The staff helpful and friendly. The prime rib in the restaurant was great and too big to finish (but I did!). Having a veranda where guests can sit and have a cocktail and watch the street was a big plus.

Thanks for the review. We always enjoy hearing from a guest who had the opportunity to experience almost all of what we offer. We are proud of our historical significance to the eastern Sierra region of California. Hope you were able to visit our nearby lakes and trails, as well as Bodie Ghost Town State Park, and of course Yosemite National Park. Bob Peters, Owner
