“Go Go Go Go Go, Don't Hesitate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

Do not hesitate to go here. It is a lovely drive to get here (roughly an hour from Mammoth Lakes). It is 3 miles of rough gravel at the end, make sure to give time for this and a car that can handle it (Ford Fusion was just fine but had to make sure to pay full attention). I am sold it is gravel at the end to limit the amount of people that will go here.

Bodie is an absolute gem for people who like architecture, history, and photography. I went twice to make sure my coworker could go also. It is not very often you see such a preserved mining town. Bodie has a really creepy feel to it, almost like you expect it to be haunted or a scene of a horror film which is pretty awesome. Given the location and the harsh winters I am shocked they did it so well to preserve this town. The road to get here isn't maintained in the winter so make sure to check it is open.

A day trip to Bodie and Mono Lake is a great combination.

“It's Worth the Time to Get There”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

This place is a little off the beaten path. You drive for what feels like forever on a dirt/gravel road but once you get there it is amazing...and creepy. To see a school that looks like the students and teacher disappeared, to hear the wind whistle through the church...all of it is creepy and amazing all at the same time. This is one of the few places in California I would go to again!

“Historic Wonder!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

I have made numerous trips to Bodie State Historic Park. THings to remember: this is romote, so facilities are not available. No food, drinks, etc. However, the park docent truly gives a talk that will take you back in time.

“"Young fella, if you’re looking for trouble I’ll accommodate ya!"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

If you are thinking of going to Bodie, try to get there as early as possible. When we arrived there we were almost alone and the feeling of “ghostness” was quite overwhelming. We walked along the main street feeling quite like in an old movie where a hero expects a bad guy to turn up while all the good local folks are trembling behind closed curtains. Later on the buses start arriving and, while still beautiful in its arrested state, the town becomes slightly less enchanting.

Don’t worry about the approach to the town; unpaved road (3 miles) is quite manageable if you drive slowly. Be sure to take the water and sun hat with you. Buying a printed guided tour is a good way to ensure you don’t miss the most interesting bits!
