“Magnificent Restaurant at Reasonable Prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

My wife and I tried this restaurant on the advice of a friend and it surpassed all our expectations. Magnificent food, outstanding service, great atmosphere and very reasonable prices. A beautiful estate to visit and one of the relatively unkown great finds in the winelands. All local and international guests will be pleasantly surprised. Highly recommended. Kenneth and Petra Fisher.

Wow is all that I can say about this property.

The hotel rooms are incredible, very spacious, tastefully furnished with every amenity that one could ask for. The personal touches and the garden theme have been carried through into all of the facilities in such a thoughtful manner.

Babylonstoren is a difficult property to describe, one has to go there to experience how all of the elements tie in together to make for such a charming estate.

The service that we received from the moment that we arrived at the main gate was warm, friendly and professional. The food at Babel was exceptional.
Thank you to everyone for making our stay so enjoyable.

We can't wait to return next year!

Room Tip: We stayed in Cottage 5, the additional space of having the kitchen and dining area I feel are worth...

We had an amazing stay in the stylish cottage and loved walking through the gardens. Lunch at Babel was delicious. Highly recommended, we will certainly go back soon and plan to stay longer next time!

Room Tip: We had room 7 which was close to the spa, a great room.

The best hotel experience I've ever had. The service was impeccable. Food and wine just amazing. Great little shop for gift buying. All in an amazing setting. Don't miss the garden and winery tour, as well as eating at Babel!

We got stuck there waiting for our car service - which it turns out, wasn't even on the way - and they pulled together transport to the Cape Town airport for us within a few minutes at 6am.

Only regret not staying longer...

So all I hear from all industry players, employees, clients and friends is how awesome Babylonstoren and this loud "ouh" you have not been yet?... tiring really...
So I book and go to experience it and I go "ouh" why did I not go there yet?
Babylonstoren is AMAZING! The staff are fabulous, the rooms are so simple, yet trendy and comfortable. The details touches (like gum boots in the rooms, a box of naartjie when you arrive, the handwritten note from the manager, really such a spoil.
Walking around the gardens of course makes the best out of your stay, it is so fabulous and inspiring. Eating the food you saw on trees and in the ground at Babel for dinner is also mind bloggling, simple but delicious.
One particular waitress - Murranda is so happy and full of the joys of life that you get a smile just by watching her!
The spa uses Africology which are 100% south African products and go right into your soul.
All in all, an escape 20min from home where you feel you have walked into another world, which world is up to what you want to make it!
I have in the meantime sent clients there, they have come back mesmerized! Will keep on doing it!

Babylonstoren is incredible. It is hard to describe the combination of the beautiful setting, the tastefully restored old farm buildings, the decor, the gardens and the friendly staff. All of which comes together to make for an unforgettable experience! To cap it all there is an authenticity to the fact that it is a real working farm and the vegetables, fruit and herbs served in the restuarant all come from the gardens.
The smiles on the faces of the staff indicate that Babylonstoren is a happy place to work and this is not just the hospitality staff - even the farm workers greet you with a smiling face and happy demeanor. Service in the resturant could not be better.
The food is outstanding and, whatever you do, do not miss breakfast (muesli tart with fruit and yoghurt or french toast with honey from the farm)
Babylonstoren is such an overall experience for the senses that you just want to gulp in all of the sights, sounds, smells and tastes.
Attention to detail is remarkable and refined, tasteful touches are everywhere.
You cannot get bored - wine tastings, spa, walks, cycling on the estate, eating or just enjoying the beautiful accomodation.
This is a special place.

Room Tip: Family rooms are great for parents and kids travelling together

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
With a glorious historical heritage dating back to 1692, no-one could have predicted Babylonstoren's exhuberant rebirth after its restoration - or the fact that the experiential traveller would respond so emotively to its holistic ethos, which has very little to do with wine tasting, and more to do with soothing the soul, healing the mind and feeding the senses. It's this mindfulness and intelligent vision that has redefined and rebranded the Cape wine estate experience forever, by celebrating the simple pleasures of farm life but with designer cred that is layered through and through. The interiors of the hotel - thirteen restored labourer's cottages - were conceptualised by Karen Roos, former editor South African ELLE Decoration, with an elegant mix of antiques and designer pieces. Seven of these have glass-walled kitchens leading into the kitchen gardens, designed by French architect Patrice Taravella and featuring traditional hanging gardens, chamomile lawns, a walled bee garden, surprise stepping-stone fountains, and even outsize bird nests to retreat to. Guests and visitors mingle, exploring the estate's many delights, whether it's a meal in the old cow shed - now the award-winning Babel restaurant with its farm-to-table menu of freshly plucked ingredients from the garden, or a taste of charcuterie, cheese and wine in the gabled farm shop. Here, tea after stroll through the Puff Adder Walkway in the elegant Conservatory at the top of the gardens is as much a ritual as the ancient cleansing treatment in the marble hammam or a refreshing swim in the reservoir-style pool. ... more   less
