“Not your typical B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012

The property is located in the midst of magical redwood forest not far from Santa Cruz. It sits at the top of the hill at a pretty good elevation. So much so that it enjoys its own micro climate that is distinct from Santa Cruz and the nearby South Bay. On a clear day you can literally see from Pescadero to Monterey Peninsula. However, it is not clear very often. This spot gets about 60 inches of rain per year. Between rain and fog mist expect precipitation at some point of your stay. it also can get very cool regardless of the time of the year. You will enjoy staying here if you enjoy solitude, privacy, hiking, horses, fog, coolness, and occasional sunshine. You may not like it if you are looking to be close to urban activities, beach, lots of sunshine and socialization with strangers. Scott and Connie are nice and friendly people. However, clearly they view this property as first and foremost their home. The B&B business is not the focus of their lives. So do not expect them to be throwing parties and leading monopoly games for guests. This is where you want to be if you want to kick back and read a book by the fireplace or catch up on some movies and sleep. The property itself is very elegant. The views are amazing. furnishings are tasteful and comfortable. The bedding is excellent. Bathrooms are first rate. Everything is spotless. There is a wonderful rottweiler dog who lives on the property. She can be a source of great warmth and fun. The breakfast is simple, but fresh and healthy. Decent restaurants are about 15 minutes away, down the hill. Again, this is not for everyone. if you are looking for the sort of experience I described, you will fall in love with this place. If not, you will not enjoy it. Do not plan to arrive here after dark. Finding this place during the day is hard enough and can be near impossible after dark.

Room Tip: If available, get the cottage. It stands on its own and has great views, fireplace, living room, kit...

It was lovely having you as our guests. Normally we are a bit more social and have more time to spend with guests. On May 8th our service dog delivered a litter of 11 German bred Rottweiler puppies, which we had to help feed every 2-4 hours for the first 2 weeks. Due to the extra work load and the foggy days, which are typical in May and early June, we were inside at the kennel dealing with pups. Now that they are 6 weeks old and getting ready to be taken home by their new parents we are almost back to our regular schedule. This weekend a group of guests got to spend time with the new pups. If you love puppies, this is a great time to visit us.

The sun is out and we are spending most our time in the yard around the pool, with our evening jam sessions starting this weekend.

Thank you for the nice review.
Hopefully you will come back and visit with us again!

The lovely photos we saw in advance did not fully capture how gorgeous Villa Montagne really is. The beauty of the Big Basin Redwood Park setting, the stunning grounds including a lovely salt water pool, our perfect pool house suite, delicious breakfasts outside on the terrace and gracious hosts....these all made our stay here the best in two weeks. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by Carly the super friendly and charming family dog who we couldn't get enough of. We were able to use the pool, hot tub and pick up the Skyline to Sea hiking trail right on the property. Perfection and great value. I would HIGHLY recommend Villa Montagne to anyone wanting to explore the Santa Cruz / Big Sur area of California.

I can't say enough good about my recent stay at Villa Montagne. The place is simply beautiful and so secluded and private. Scott is an excellent cook and we enjoyed an evening of great food, good wine and interesting company. Connie went above and beyond when I forgot my cell phone charger....she mailed it to me the very next day.
