“Go See The Oldest California State Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2014 NEW

So much to see here. It's beautiful and serene. I went off season so there was no one around (the way I like it) but the park is totally set up for big crowds. Cool off site camping, 80 miles of trails, HUGE trees... it's all good. Don't miss this one. I went on a few trails, there are great waterfalls and the "Father" of all redwoods. Really great and away from the hustle/bustle. You can actually hike to the coast!! PLUS - the park makes you fill out a form which says where you'll be and what you have in case you run into a problem. Down side? Too close to too many towns (but this is a bubble for sure).

“Beautiful place to take a hike!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2014

Have been to this park twice and it is worth the drive. Some of the. Most accessible, large redwood stands in the central coast, which is good and bad! Good because its easily accessible and bad because that brings so many people there on a weekend, which was the only time we had. Met lots of foreign travelers, most of who understood the parks rules and some of whom didn't, but it may have been because they didn't speak English. Tried to help the, find their way back to the main building and realized they didn't know what I was saying even when they said they did. But it worked out! The other reason anyone might get confused is that the maps and trail signs are very lacking in clarity, so plan your hiking carefully ahead. Amazing trees!! Try to go on a weekday.

“Worth the drive!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2014 via mobile

two routes, highway 9, which is super windy or highway 17, which is quicker, but with traffic can take longer. So tranquil and quiet. Be sure to take a coat and snacks. The snack shack is not always open and the closest town is far away. Crisp air and lots of places to camp out. Clean bathrooms as well. Love this place.

“Thank you for preserving this area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2014

This is worth the drive. Thank you to the vision of those who initially preserved this land and to those today who nurture care and protect it. It is beautiful, tranquil and important to the future of this planet.

“Very beautiful park with amazing redwoods”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2014

Big Basin Redwoods State Park is a very nice park to hike in and see the amazing redwoods. We only had time to do the redwood loop but there's lots of other trails and camping sites. Costs $10 to get in (like every other CA park it seems). It's not the easiest park to find. Not right off the main highway. The roads to the park are often narrow and wind around so you need to stay alert.
