“Another relaxing stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

We stayed at the Hacienda over July 4th, which was midweek this year. It was an ideal overnight, was able to check in a little early as the place was completely empty. That was really a bonus as we made a beeline to the always perfect pool to begin our R&R. Mike put out some of the variety of rafts for us and I logged in at least 6 hours straight of floating in the pool, reading a good book, on day one, more on the second morning. If it is pool time you are seeking, this is the place.Sparkling clean pool, just a bit cool water to be comfortable, yet warm enough so that you can be in it hours on end without chilling, at least with summer temps. Fortunately for us, the sheep counters were arriving the next day, and would be taking up a number of the rooms, so I did not even have to share the quiet and pool at sunset, which is a lovely time poolside . (they are out early to bake all day in the hills, returning in the late afternoon)

I believe it was the quietest we have ever been to the town. Midweek holiday must have encouraged locals to take some days off and go into San Diego. Even the local haunts like Carly's, were pretty deserted. But we were happy and content in our simple motel room at the Hacienda. Very basic, but the rooms have enjoyed some improvements in the recent year or two; the redone bathrooms are hugely appreciated. Now on to replacing some of the raveling carpet...........

If you are looking for a relaxing place to stay, look no further! The Hacienda del Sol has beautiful natural grounds that have not been landscaped which is very inviting to all kinds of desert residents like bats, roadrunners, kangaroo rats etc. The rooms are always clean and although some people might think a little dated which is true, they are very comfortable and have been upgraded in the way of bathroom facilities. The pool is THE cleanest and nicest in Borrego Springs. The pool has plenty of shade provided so you don't roast in the sun.
My wife and I have been staying at the Hacienda for many years and always look forward to staying there. They have standard motel rooms as well as duplexes and casitas which are larger and have kitchen facilities if you need more room or have a large family.
The Hacienda is centrally located in Borrego Springs near shops, restaurants and to the state park visitor center as well as hiking trails.

Room Tip: We like the last room in the row of rooms, 21. That way if you noisy neighbors you only have them o...

Thank you very much for returning year after year. Thank you also for noticing the improvements we are making to the Hacienda. She is a good ole gal, and we are in the process of giving her a face lift. The pool has just been completely restored, as well as the shade structure. We are starting at the front and continuing around the grounds on a painting mission, as well as targeting rooms for bathroom upgrades....Please come again...

I do not stay in fancy motels. I'd rather stay in a place with character than a generic place ...that's why we chose this place over some of the other places - big mistake.

My wife and I spent a couple of nights in one of the cottages. After running the credit card, our host told us something like "you are going to hear loud noises on the roof. It sounds like someone is on the roof- it's not someone on the roof...." If you are charging over $150 a night for a place for someone to sleep, you might want to fix that. It's a really really loud noise and happens all day and all night. He continued "Watch your head on the electrical box by the door. I've been here for years, and I still bang my head on it. I've told you about, so now you've been told"...If you are charging over $150 a night, you might want to move that box - it's obviously in a dangerous spot, and mentioning that it's in a bad spot does not make it ok... Trash barrel in front of cottage overflowing when we arrived - wasn't emptied during our stay. Overall, a run down place with a view of a strip mall parking lot....

Close to the amazing Anza-Borrego park. Walking distance to the local shops.

Thank you for your recent review on Trip Advisor. I am sorry you didn't have a good experience while staying at the Hacienda. The extreme heat and cold that Borrego Springs can sometimes experience, causes buildings with wood beams to expand and contract, which can result in some creaking once in a while. Our manager was just letting you know. Unfortunately our 1950's family owned property won't substantiate completely renovating these units for sound control. Some guests find this charming, and love to tell stories about it. I understand if you did not feel the same way. In any case, we do appreciate your business, and suggest that perhaps you try one of duplexes or motel rooms on your next visit.

Thanks again...

While we've stayed in several of Borrego Springs' motels, the Hacienda Del Sol is our favorite. They have 3 levels of accommodations - motel style rooms, duplexes, and cabins. They have wi-fi and a very nice shaded pool. They offer hundreds of movies to borrow & watch in your room. It's nice and quiet, and centrally located within easy walking distance of most places in Borrego Springs. It's run by very nice and friendly people. It's not fancy or luxurious like some of the resorts on the outskirts, but it's clean and comfortable.

My wife and I headed out to Borrego on Cinco de Mayo to check out the biggest full moon of the year and to visit a "dark sky community." We stayed at the Hacienda del Sol for just one night and it was a pleasant experience. The owner/manager Mike was very friendly when we checked in. You can borrow from hundreds of dvd's that are in the main lobby to watch in your unit which was a cool idea. He also told us that at night the buildings will make lots of creaking noises because the nightime air cools off the structure causing it to contract. Luckily we were told this because that night there were times it sounded like something was running along our rooftop! The place was a little rough around the edges but it was clean inside and the bathroom was updated nicely. You get this feeling of being transported back to the 50's which has a calming feeling and waking up the next morning and just chilling on the patio was pretty relaxing. We saw some rabbits, roadrunners and doves right outside our cottage in the desert brush while we had our morning coffee. The Hacienda is located within walking distance of "The Mall" where some Mexican restaurants, a market and some bars are located so that was convenient. Remember folks, this isn't going to be some 4 star accomodation but we weren't expecting that and just wanted to check out the desert and get away from the hustle and bustle. One thing we did notice was that a lot of the older males tended to have mustaches, not sure what that was about but maybe it's a Borrego thing :)

Room Tip: Cottage #1 is at the end of the path which loops around. It's quiet and you don't hear too...

My wife and I stayed at Hacienda del Sol for 4 nights in April, 2011, using the room as our luxurious 'base camp' for day-hiking in the Anza-Borrego State Park. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable, and the rates were reasonable. No expensive 5-star frills, but most hikers don't care for that kind of thing, anyway. Having a clean shower, a cool room and comfy bed after a long day of hiking in the desert is REALLY NICE! We didn't come to watch TV, but the TV worked, and they have a free library of movies on DVD; we spent one pleasant evening watching a Harry Potter flick after a magical day of hiking. The folks who run the place are friendly and helpful. This motel is in central Borrego Springs, so you're near restaurants, grocery store, gas statiion, etc. Having a microwave oven in the room would have helped, but we asked about that in advance and brought our own. Overall, highly recommended!

Thank you so much for coming the Hacienda del Sol. I am so glad you enjoyed yourself. It sounds like you stayed in a motel room during your stay. Those rooms are basic and do not offer cooking facilities. Our duplexes and cottages have full kitchens (including microwave ovens), living room, bedroom, bathroom and private patios. The cottages also have both indoor and outdoor fireplaces, and extra large private patios. Perhaps on your next trip out you'll give one of those a try.

We rode our motorcycles out to Borrego Springs over the "Super Moon" weekend. We have been to this little town many times and have stayed at several other hotels in the area. We like to try different places and this was our first time at the Hacienda del Sol. We got one of the "motel" style rooms. There are also single cabins and duplexes. The room was big and clean and fairly modern. There was a large air conditioner that worked very well and was not too loud. It had the room cooled off fast. Even though the place was full for the night, it was very quiet and we slept well. There is also an ice machine that was full of ice everytime we needed some.

The grounds of property are very large and done up on the typical desert landscape which was very appealing. There is a picnic area and a large swimming pool that was warm and crystal clear. There is shaded seating at one end of the pool to get out of the sun. We loved the pool and used it several times during out one night stay. It was fun to watch some of the animals from a RoadRunner bird to rabits and chipmunks running around the place.

The location is great! You can walk across the street for the little mall in town which also has several restaurants and shops. Just up and down the street are other places to eat and several general stores.

We really liked this location and will be going back and want to try one of the duplex cabins next!

Room Tip: Our room was #16 and we found it clean, big and quiet with good air conditioning.
