“Website a bit misleading”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

The website for the Borrego Springs Resort and Spa gave me higher expectations than the resort delivered. The website promised a level of sophistication and beauty that we never encountered. That being said, I must admit that our stay was rather pleasant.

Our room was quite large and clean with a relatively comfortable bed. The air conditioner was noisy, but worked. The staff were friendly and responsive. The pool was adequate .

The outside patio of the Arches restaurant has a lovely view. Staff were pleasant, but service was generally slow. The food, however, was really not good. But, then, again, the food elsewhere in Borrego Springs was not very good, either.

I guess what was most disappointing about Borrego Springs Resort was its aesthetics. The setting, out side of the town, surrounded by beautiful vistas, is spectacular. One wishes the Resort could be beautiful as well. Unfortunately not. Rather, it has the feel of a slightly dated chain motel, or a senior retirement facility.

On the other hand, it is probably the best place to stay in Borrego Springs. So, enjoy what is there and keep your eyes on the mountains and the starry night skies..

Room Tip: See if you can find a room with a view of the mountains.

Only 80 miles from Palm Springs, CA this resort has been brought back to its charm of the past. The golf course fits the bogie golfer with some challenges for the sub 10 handicapper. The restaurant is now blessed with a new, young chef producing new creative dishes. Asparagus spears, rolled in honey, chile pepper, and then wrapped with pirchooto is a remarkable starter. Bourbon pork tenderloin melts in one's mouth. Add this to reasonable prices and a memorable trip occurs.

Room Tip: Unless you plan to use the pool, request a room on the south side for a more quiet evening.

Title: GREAT FACILITY - LOUSY DINING
ID#: 154912699

I traveled with a group (MG) for Friday and Saturday nights (3/16 - 3/18) at the Borrego Springs Resort and Spa. This is the fourth time that our group has stayed here and the experience has always been great except for this last time. We had pre-ordered dinner at the Arches (at least a month in advance) with a time of arrival at 7PM. Out group arrived on time and was immediately seated. By 8:15 we had not even been served our salads. When they did arrive the lettuce was warm and the dressings below average. The waiter then took our orders around 8:45 pm (even though we had preordered). When the dinner finally arrive around 9:15 pm, it was too late and I refused to eat at that time.

There was no excuse for this lousy experience, even though our drink tab was comped (I had iced tea - big deal). I paid for a pleasant dinner and ended up with nothing. I doubt if I will be back again (but I cannot speak for my group).

Additionally, when we prebooked the resort we were assured that all of our rooms would be in one building, but they ended up being spread out.

Mr. Cambell,

I am so very sorry that your group had to wait for the dinner. Again, we did have some unforeseen challenges in the restaurant that evening, but that is still no excuse.

Please feel free to contact me directly for further resolution.

Sincerely,

A Trip Advisor Award on the Borrego’s Springs Resort & Spa counter has been very surprising after an unpleasant stay in this hotel.
The check-in has been nice and welcome. The rooms are completely outdated, there is nothing vivid nowhere. One feels like in a monastery. The golf area is very nice and neat, as well as the surroundings. At the arrival customers are told that restaurant & bar close at 9pm. At our table at 8pm we had been waiting for our first glass for half an hour. When we complained the waitress told us that she would have to double check whether they still have sparkling wine or not. Time passes and our dishes arrived one by one, but unfortunately not together. Service has been disastrous and we had not been the only ones to complain. The apology has been: “ oh so sorry, but we have a large party this evening”! It doesn’t bear contemplating when they have full house.
It’s not worth wasting any words about the food. The only thing I want to say is that when changing my vegetable side dish to mashed potatoes we had to pay an extra. Incomprehensible!! The night was horrible because the mattress as well as the pillows are as obsolete as the whole accommodation; and once you moved you got seasick.
When checking-out nobody asked whether we enjoyed our stay or not.
A real desert atmosphere!

Spent three nights here in March 2013 with another couple. Played two rounds of golf on the property 18 hole course. At in the restaurant for breakfast and two dinners. The resort is in pretty good shape for and older property, small pool was pretty busy but overall not many people during a peak winter season. I would guess about 30% occupancy The high season is in April when the nearby Anza Borrego State Park has a great display of flowers. The golf course is in pretty good shape and well designed with lots of fairway bunkers and dogleg turns. The green were in good shape. This course used to have another 9 holes but that has been closed and returned to the desert. The whole Borrego area never achieved the development level that was hoped for. The towns borders are several miles across but less than 10 percent ever got developed. The resort is located in a sparsley inhabitied area with little traffic so you don't need to worry about traffic noise in any of the rooms. Our friends ask for a smokefree room and were given one that had had smokers in it. They had to be moved to another room. The front desk never seemed to get that figured out as their key cards to the room inevitably failed each time they returned.

The restaurant was nice with patio overlooking the golf course. The food was good for the price.

The rooms were a bit pricey at $160 a night but I managed to negotiate a golf package included in the room price because I was staying three nights. Normally the golf is $50, except on Tuesday its $25.

Room Tip: 2 story buildings with no elevators, Very quiet area so noise in not a problem.

Our group stayed here last weekend...everything was handled well (there were 18 of us) and all of our rooms were immaculately clean and well appointed. It was just an overnight stay, but rooms were comfortable, and they put us all together, which was very convenient. Overall, it was great! No complaints from any of us!

This hotel has way too high prices for the area. The people at the front desk are not properly trained. There was no welcome from them and no effort to get our rooms ready before 4 and when we returned at 4, one was still not ready. I got a later check out but they still locked me out at checkout time and I couldn't get back in to retrieve my purse. Hotel Impossible needs to come train the staff. You should feel welcome upon arrival. The pillows are terrible.
