“A beautiful, comfortable, friendly surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2009

We love this hotel! The staff is very friendly. The rooms are beautiful. The whole place has a wonderful, rustic, cozy feeling -- but with crisp, clean sheets and delicious food and wine. The grounds are rambling and full of beautiful gardens. The little town of Boonville is great too.

We spent a comfortable, relaxing weekend at the Boonville Hotel. It is decorated in a shaker style that is minimal and beautiful. Everything I needed was provided. The staff was extremely accomadating, the beds were comfortable. The shower was fantastic and the rooms were clean. The food was delicious, and the owner Johnny is gracious and friendly. The gardens are lush and beautiful. Johnny grows the food and cooks with the fresh home grown ingredients.
I highly recommend this hotel, and I think it would be a great place for a family reunion, wedding or just a group of friends getting together because the is a large comfortable living room to hang out in.

I went to Boonville/Anderson Valley with a group of friends. I stayed in the room towards back of hotel. The grounds are very lovely. The hotel is charming and clean. The staff seem nice. But not overly hospitable. They did not leave an "awesome" impression.

Yes, the rooms are clean. And decorated very nicely and charming. But, Be warned. There is no TV. No radio. No clock. No hairdryer. ... no standard ammenities. For the room rates, its not really fair. Plus they do not mention how "bare-boned" it is on the website. Its way, waaaaayyy overpriced due to the lack of these basics.

The bed was not comfortable. I awoke with an achy back (its on a wood platform ...? ). And its damn noisy in the morning between the hallway noise and the street traffic.

Travelling to the North end of wine country with our dog during Easter week, there weren't many options, but the Boonville Hotel sounded great and was pet friendly. We stayed in their largest room, the "Studio". Rustic does not begin to describe this place. Concrete floor in most of the room, but the bedroom area was two steps up and had floor covering reminiscent of a brillo/S.O.S. pad crossed with a nylon pot scrubber. Even the dog didn't want to walk on it. To add to the "agony of the feet", where the covering was placed on the stairs, angled iron was attached to be sure it didn't move. Hit your toe on one of those in the middle of the night and you won't be sleeping for hours. But there isn't much sleeping going on here, anyway, with the noise from the traffic in the early evening, the barking dogs in the middle of the night, and the 4 a.m. startup at a local heavy equipment yard. Can you say "back up beepers" five times fast while sleep deprived? We originally thought it must have been trash pickup day (on a Monday early morning) but where told by locals that the Garbage trucks arrived in the middle of the week. And the beeper noise continued on Tuesday morning.

Other architectural details included a closet door fabricated from strings of painted bamboo beads (bad 60s flashback?), bare light bulbs, poorly installed french doors, transparent window shades, and a bathroom straight out of either an old service station or your worst camping experience....complete with industrial glass window strengthened with chicken wire. While we can appreciate the need for hotels to offer handicapped access, there was no effort to structure the floor of the shower to keep the water confined to one end of the bathroom. Water simply hit the floor and puddled throughout the room, eventually finding the floor drain. Glad there were extra towels which could be used as a "dam" to confine some of this. Handicapped access.... remember the bedroom area is up two steps? And then there's the mold on the wood trim around the base of the bathroom door. Shampoo and hand lotion is provided (no conditioner) and one bar of soap which is incapable of lather. Tissue is scratchy, so you may want to bring your own bathroom supplies.

The switch for the outdoor porch light is on the exterior of the building, There are pipes stubbed out of the bedroom wall where the sink must have been originally, blocked with a rickety armor. We figured that must be where the TV would be. What TV? No phone, either, though there's a wire for one sticking out of the wall near the bed. The staff must have grown weary of guests requesting such luxuries as a hair dryer or iron and ironing board....you'll find neither in the room. When we requested both on the first morning (via cell phone call), we were greated on the phone by our first human contact here, who didn't want to burn the scones. Could this be the innkeeper who was nowhere to be found on check in? Both items were left outside our door about an hour later.

Our arrival at the hotel was met by puzzled glances from the spanish-only housekeeping staff who had to go next door for someone to interpret our question about which room we'd be occupying and where to check in. Apparently offering an employee to welcome guests in the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday just isn't part of the job description. Though on Monday afternoon there was another guest equally baffled and wandering the parking lot looking for a way into the building. The restaurant, which seems highly rated in earlier reviews, was closed on Sunday and Monday, and the doors were locked with no advisory note to hotel guests as to a back or side entrance or number to phone for check in. It seems there is one english speaking employee on payroll who is overworked with scone baking and does not have time for checking in guests.

Parking is easy and close, but watch for the sheep wandering through in the morning. If you're looking for a good location to hide someone in the federal witness protection program, or a location to film an episode of C.S.I., this could be it!

We spent two nights here and loved it. Lots of pluses: comfortable and relaxed place, imaginatively decorated, staff was so friendly and welcoming, delicious dinner near a roaring fire, beautiful lounge to relax in, great coffee and home-made scones for breakfast, sweet town. Highly recommend a stay here.

Spent a night at the Boonville at the advice of a friend working in the area for a while. The room was charming, spotless, and with a comfortable bed. The dining room was not open that night (a loss for us..) but next morning we were offered hot out of the oven scones that were the best I've had, and after traveling around Ireland doing farm stays I've sampled alot. Douse them with the delicious raspberry jam from the Philo Apple Farm down the road and around the corner heading to a state park, it's available for sale at their farm stand or at the Boonville hotel itself. The owner was very friendly, offering tour tips for us while we had refills of organic apple juice (from same apple farm) and good coffee. Note per prior review, room did not have a hair dryer but another guest requested one and was given one to use with a smile. This is a road house, so you do hear the few cars going by, but it's well muted and not a heavily traveled road at night anyway. Highly recommend.

Had dinner here on Saturday night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was great. The Seabass entree was delicious and they make one of the best Chocolate mousse I've ever tasted...inhaled. I would highly recommend.
