“Romantic and Relaxing Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

My husband and I recently spent 2 nights at this property after a week in San Francisco. We found a great special internet rate for a suite that was reasonable. The room was lovely! Great bed with soft, quality linens, 2 TVS, a fireplace and a fabulous bath. The tub was jetted, with bath crystals available for a relaxing soak, as well as, a standup shower with a great skylight. We had a view of the bay and wildlife area. We were in the Blue Heron suite.

The lodge serves local wine and cheese each evening around 4 to 6. Good quality and a great chance to meet other travelers.

The Duck something... restaurant was okay, although the service was excellent. We had breakfast was great and we had room service on the second day.... the front desk called to make sure the food was as ordered. Nice service!

We also had messages... they were GREAT! Barbara was wonderful... very relaxing after horseback riding and wine...I highly recommend this service.

My only issue was at check out... they had billed me the regular rate, and when I mentioned it they said that was the special rate... well, I had my confirmation in the car and when I showed it, they said the internet was wrong, but they'd honor the rate anyway.... Really? Like it was my fault?

They did correct my bill.

Overall, this experience wouldn't prevent me from coming back to this property. We really enjoyed our trip to Bodega Bay and I have no doubt we'll be back.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms have views... as the lodge is on hills, so I don't think there would be an...

My wife and I just got back from a trip to San Francisco and wine country. We flew into San Francisco and drove up to Bodega Bay (around 80 minutes and a gorgeous drive) for the first two nights of our trip. The property is beautiful as you can see from the website and photos here on TA. The temperatures were on the chilly side but we were prepared for the cooler temps. We walked down to Doran beach one afternoon to watch the kite surfers (and there were a lot of them). We ate dinner our first night at the restaurant on site and dinner was pretty good. Service was good and the views are incredible from the dining room. There is a wine social every evening at 5PM and we did stop by for some wine and cheese before dinner. We ate breakfast there the next AM and that was very good. We went off site for meals the rest of our stay (we intentionally try to get off property wherever we stay for meals).

We were very happy with our room - we were on the 2nd floor and the views are incredible. We did take advantage of the in room fire place one night as well - nice touch as it does get chilly in the evenings. The resort is close to the Russian River Valley and within 15-30 minutes of LOTS of wineries (some really fantastic Pinot and Chards). Quite a few small towns to explore as well. If you do nothing else, rent a car and drive up the coast. The views are phenomenal and there are lots of public beach areas to explore. Some of the most beautiful overlooks I have ever seen.

We would go back to Bodega Bay Lodge in a heartbeat. It was a nice relaxing way to start our vacation. There is not a lot to do at the resort in the evenings. If you are looking for nightlife, you may want to consider other options. However, if you are looking for a great room, wonderful view, great service, and relaxed atmosphere - you cannot go wrong with this property. Great place for couples and families alike. Book with confidence!

This suite was wonderful. But the fog horn was a challenge as were the sliding doors which must have been purchased used. But the room was lovely and clean and the staff very accommodating. The location and views were terrific. Bring a white noise machine for the fog horn!

We’ve been staying at the Bodega Bay Lodge for many, many years, and even though it’s over 40 years old, continual renovations make the rooms seem brand-new. Our friends, with whom we were traveling, were enthralled with the views from the rooms, as well as the rooms themselves, with bed overlooking the bay, balcony, a cozy fireplace with comfy reading chair, and beautiful bathroom.

The addition of a lounge next to The Duck Club was a great idea, especially on the Monday night we were there when the restaurant was packed with a bike touring group and the only place we could eat was the lounge. The bartender/server was great, and the food, as always, was delicious. It was too windy and wet to sit outside in front of the fire pit, but it sure seems like a place we would love to try out. It’s too bad we live 3300 miles away, or we’d be spending a lot of time at The Bodega Bay Lodge.

Room Tip: Second-floor rooms have a better view.

Great setting. We were on the second level of one of the buildings further back, but had an unobstructed view. The workout room even has a view. Our room had two queen beds, vaulted ceiling, small fireplace - very comfortable and inviting. As everyone says, the rooms are extremely clean and spacious, and the bathroom was nice. Beds were typical (I prefer something softer), but not uncomfortable. The friendly little wine-tasting event every evening is a nice touch and allows you to meet other guest if you're inclined. (Most of the guest were middle-aged or older couples - at least those at the wine tastings - a few families with older kids.) Staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Had a pleasant massage in the small spa. The weather wasn't what we'd been hoping for - cold and very, very windy (40 mph the day we arrived), so no pool or beach time. (One of the staff told me it was the windy season.) All kinds of options for good day trips inland to wineries, Sebastopol, Sonoma, quaint towns along the coast, and some good restaurants, and the staff is ready to help. I would recommend, and would like to return sometime in the late summer or fall.

This is truly an outstanding facility. Amazing panoramic vistas, spacious, well-designed and well-appointed rooms, professional staff who are friendly and informative. The bathrooms are huge and luxurious, with abundant soft towels and excellent toiletries. The rooms are attractive and very large, with high ceilings to give even more sense of space. Great, comfortable beds, excellent reading areas. The wine and cheese hour is a nice addition.

The grounds, too, are lovely and easily traversed. The views are fabulous.

We picked Bodega Bay Lodge because of its location on our coastal trip back to San Francisco from a trip to northern Calif. as well as reviews on Trip Advisor. Fantastic ocean views. Great room with vaulted ceilings and a classy bathroom (5 star comfort).
Spa services were excellent as were small plates in bar (oysters and crab cakes were our favorites).
Weather was typical coastal cool but patios adjacent to restaurant and spa have fire pits to huddle around.

Room Tip: All rooms have great ocean views but second floor rooms offer least potential for obstructed views.
