“Lovely Get Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We stayed at the Lodge due to its proximity to the golf course and were very pleasantly surprised with the choice in accommodations. We had two rooms, both very nicely appointed and rather large. The weather was a bit on the cold and wet side so having our own fireplace (with firelogs included) made the room a nice, cozy retreat after a long day on the links. The front desk people were helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay here again.

We have stayed here multiple times, most recently in March. The rooms are nice and the staff is always great. We love just sitting out on the balcony with a good glass of wine and relaxing. Add in the fireplace for cozy evenings and what else could you ask for? The cheese and wine hour is great as well.

We are here with kids to explore norCal. Staying in Whale room and it is huge. Perfect size for a fam of 4 to relax and take in the coastal peacefulness. Surrounded by foghorn and birds it makes you forget the daily hustle and bustle. So glad we chose this town and this place

We agree with the other reviewers—Bodega Bay Lodge is a perfect getaway!! We went for a 1 night getaway on a Friday morning (no traffic to speak of). We had beautiful scenery up Highway 1 from Marin/Stinson Beach. It was foggy and misty most of the way throughout the day but that had a beauty of its own. We stopped at the Marshall Store for lunch and had BBQ Oysters and cups of fish stew and chowder. We arrived at the Bodega Bay Lodge at 2 p.m. (2 hours earlier than Check-In) but our room was ready so they let us check in! The room was great: great view, very clean, and an end unit--which we loved because we love quiet! We then took a 2 mile walk to the Doran Park Beach area along the road and came back along the trail that goes through the marshland, where we saw abundant marine birds and some deer. By then the sun was out and it was in the 70's. We enjoyed the wine and cheese gathering in the lobby-what a nice touch. At Drake's Fireside Lounge, we had a dinner of Caesar salad and split an entree without any problem. After breakfast the next day in The Duck Club, we drove to Bodega Head for a hike where there were whale watchers waiting for the fog to lift to reveal the migrating whales. As we drove by the Bodega Harbor, many people were in line to experience life on board a tall ship since they were in port that day. When we arrived at home, we were amazed that we were only gone 1 day as it seemed like we had been gone a long time because we had seen so much natural beauty and really did experience a much needed getaway at the Bodega Bay Lodge. We highly recommend this place!!

we stayed here this past feb. had an exellent rm #609. great outlook over the bay and down to pt. reyes there is a fog horn but remember your at a harbor entrance. they have a wine & cheese thing in the main lobby quite nice, a fire pit just outside the restaurant very nice for a drink & apps. before dinner. a nice walk to the beach with lots of birds and some furry friends.

Room Tip: we stayed in #609 a lower rm with no one above us close to the restaurant but very quiet great views

This hotel is way off the beaten track. I drove in from San Jose airport and the last 20 miles were totally rural. If you are looking for an upscale spa get away, this is it. Fireplace in the room is a nice touch. The balcony overlooks the Bay but you can hear the ocean waves crashing against the shore. There is also a fog horn that sounds about every30 seconds - it's not unpleasant. It really helps set the mood. Breakfast is included but I haven't had that yet. Don't think I'll ever be back - but if I lived in the area I would come for the weekend. It's a nice getaway.

My family and I stayed here for two nights and liked the hotel a lot. I stayed in the Captains Quarters (big room) as it was the same price as reserving two double rooms. The room was very nice – plenty of space, clean, and well appointed. The room had clear views of the beach, bay, and bird sanctuary but the ocean was mostly blocked by trees. It was very quiet.

The hotel itself has more of a quiet, casual, out-of-the-way lodge feel to it. The rooms have a bit of a luxury tilt to them, but it is not formal (this is good in my opinion). We went to the wine and cheese reception one evening – and found both the food and drink to be above expectations. The lobby is small and comfy, and there is a side room just off it that also has a patio. It is a nice place to sit and relax. The beach is a short walk, and the hotel and surrounding area are great for bird watching. We ordered room service for breakfast one day and it was prompt and reasonably priced. See my separate review of the restaurant. We did not use the spa.

Improvements? Not many. The wifi in our room was slow and 3G/4G service was spotty. I wish they had connecting rooms or more double bed options, especially in the suites or Bodega Bay rooms.

A couple of FYI’s as well. The town is small and a bit isolated. This is neither good nor bad, just make sure expectations are in order. If you like to stock up on supplies or need something uncommon, you have a 15-20 minute drive each way. Ditto if you want a more expansive set of food choices. This was not really a problem for us, but just be aware.

Definitely recommended.
