As you are going through Bodega Bay on Highway 1, and round the curve across from Pelican Plaza you see a small patio with picnic tables. There is a "kite and candy" store next to it on the curve.
If you pass it, the sign just after reads something like " you just passed the best fish and chips and clam chowder".
We turned around and pulled in. They have their own parking lot. Birds Cafe looks like a little house, it is actually next to their home (I think). We met locals there, so the quality speaks for itself.
I wanted a bowl of clam chowder, as did my husband. I asked Manhattan or New England, to which they responded New England. Well, it was much better than New England. The broth was lnice and light, not thick like New England. Full of clams ( not over loaded with potatoes), I thoroughly enjoyed their chowder. It was seasoned well, and I still can't believe how many clams were in it.
We didn't have any fish, as it was in between meaks and was filling enough.
One bonus is that the patio area outside looks over the marina, so we had a scenic view.
