“Overpriced Truck Stop Diner”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2014

Blythe is a truck stop town in the middle of nowhere between Phoenix, AZ and Palm Springs, CA. I guess if you have to stop then Blythe is about the only option you have. The same goes for the restaurant choices in Blythe. Trip Advisor rated the Red Cactus Bar and Grill the No. 2 restaurant slightly ahead of Subway (No. 3), Sizzler (No.5) and Burger King (No. 10). You know you are in trouble when your competition is fast food.

The menu choices at the Red Cactus B&G is your standard fare of salad, hamburgers, enchiladas, steak, spaghetti, etc. The food was unimpressive and average at best. On the plus side, the restaurant was recently renovated so it’s nice and clean. Also, the wait staff were courteous and the service was fast. BEWARE: Do not order the spaghetti marina with meatballs which are extra. The meatballs (slightly larger than grocery store frozen meatballs that come in a pack of 25) are $3.50 for two. For a family of four, our total bill with tip was about $70 for non alcoholic drinks and entrees. We did not order dessert.

Here is the bottom line: if you want a sit down place in the middle of nowhere, then the Red Cactus B&G is as “good” as they come but it comes at a stiff price. We plan to skip this joint on the way back and give the No. 3 restaurant in Blythe a try. I am sure I can get 8 meatballs in my foot long sandwich for just $5!!!!!

“Finally a restaurant in Blythe with good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

While not elegant dining, we enjoyed our meal at the Red Cactus. Open a little over a year, we had dinner there after unsuccessfully trying several restaurants.

“Okie smoke-no okie dokes”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

The 1st time we went we shared expensive, lame, tiny coconut shrimp and not an even number to share. Then stuffed chili pepper WITHOUT the seeds removed and hickory smoked black beans--WHAT?!! You don't do that to black beans & hickory is not southwest. I was not impressed. I was glad the waiter didn't fish because his exageration of the size of dessert made me so made when we took it home in a box unseen to eat, I wanted to drive back there and get my tip. Restaurant had nice trees lining the booth windows and they cut them down...crazy in the desert. Guess car status and view of the back of a service station is a better setting for the place

“Suprise in the middle of nowhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014 credit card Amex Card Member Review

During a recent trip through the desert of California, we stopped at a great restaurant in Blythe, CA. That is far off the beaten path. Our hotel staff recommended the Red Cactus Bar and Grill. To my surprise, it was wonderful. It was a Friday evening and the place was packed. Just a short wait however and we were introduced to a wonderful meal. The wait staff was excellent and the food was even better. I can't wait to go back to Blythe again.
