Blythe is a truck stop town in the middle of nowhere between Phoenix, AZ and Palm Springs, CA. I guess if you have to stop then Blythe is about the only option you have. The same goes for the restaurant choices in Blythe. Trip Advisor rated the Red Cactus Bar and Grill the No. 2 restaurant slightly ahead of Subway (No. 3), Sizzler (No.5) and Burger King (No. 10). You know you are in trouble when your competition is fast food.
The menu choices at the Red Cactus B&G is your standard fare of salad, hamburgers, enchiladas, steak, spaghetti, etc. The food was unimpressive and average at best. On the plus side, the restaurant was recently renovated so it’s nice and clean. Also, the wait staff were courteous and the service was fast. BEWARE: Do not order the spaghetti marina with meatballs which are extra. The meatballs (slightly larger than grocery store frozen meatballs that come in a pack of 25) are $3.50 for two. For a family of four, our total bill with tip was about $70 for non alcoholic drinks and entrees. We did not order dessert.
Here is the bottom line: if you want a sit down place in the middle of nowhere, then the Red Cactus B&G is as “good” as they come but it comes at a stiff price. We plan to skip this joint on the way back and give the No. 3 restaurant in Blythe a try. I am sure I can get 8 meatballs in my foot long sandwich for just $5!!!!!
