“Once in a life time adventure!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

You need to visit the bristlecone's at least once in your life time. It is a great experience to see and touch the oldest living things on earth. Plan at least 1/2 a day trip from Bishop, Big Pine and Lone Pine. I would suggest packing a lunch as there are many picnic areas to enjoy.

“Bristlecone Pines - Go all the way up”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

Go to the end of the road about 14,100 feet. High clearance and last bit (past new visitors center) is unpaved but not difficult unless you are in a hurry. Plan on an entire day if you can. It is fascinating. If you are lucky you will have some broken cloud cover that gives interesting plays of light and shadows among the pines.

“Very interesting place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

This is a place WAY up in the mountains where the oldest trees in the world grow. Getting there is an experience best done in a high clearance vehicle. It is cold, the wind blows and the air is thin so be prepared.

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

Get ready for a long ride up to the forest, but it is well worth the ride. Bring lots of water and take it easy at this altitude. Being prepared will make your trip so much more enjoyable.

“Stunning scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

Easy to find from Bishop and well worth the drive. Visited in October and the scenery was stunning, sunshine but snow on mountains, winding road but easy and relatively short drive.

Plenty of viewing points and information boards by roadside, felt that this was off the main tourist circuit. We drove up to the visitor centre on a tarmac road in a standard rental vehicle but to explore further afield you would need a 4x4. Ranger and staff at visitor centre helpful, trails head off from car park. Recommend this attraction.
