“A perfect rest stop between LA and Carson City”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Just slightly off the beaten path, the Mountain View Motel was a good spot to rest my head (and my motorcycle!) in between the 425 mile trip. Moderately comfy bed, kinda dated rooms and decor, but hey, it was inexpensive and had a fridge that proved handy. The front desk guy was very nice when I checked in late at night, too. The breakfast was a little sparse so plan on eating out instead.

Room Tip: There's lots of room there off a large parking lot.

Some reviewers have mentioned renovations over the past years, and there is evidence of repairs and repainting here and there, but the place really needs a major renovation. My toilet didn't really flush; the fridge made just enough noise that I had to unplug it to go to sleep, and I seemed to be at the very limit of the range of the WiFi. On the other hand, the manager was friendly; the staff made sincere, if unsuccessful, attempts to address problems I was having, and the rate was reasonable. In addition, they had a pool (unlike other inexpensive motels in this price range); a BBQ and picnic area, and a fish cleaning station - all of which got used by people staying there. The property is not without potential; it's just not in very good shape and has a drab appearance.

Wifi worked at breakfast, in car park, in room all over! Breakfast was very basic but better than having to spend money elsewhere, very very happy! Room was clean, pillows could have been better but for cost it was fantastic

Firstly the motel was advertised with in room wifi, however this was non existant. We didn't find out until we got to our room. When we questioned the manager his response was that we could sit in the office reception to use wifi. He was extremely rude and would not even attempt to resolve the problem.
As for the rooms, they were a little smelly and a few bugs flying around in the bathroom.
To top it off the toilet blocked up twice!
There are plenty of other motels in Bishop. This isn't the first bad review. I really suggest you stay elseware.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

Yes, yes, yes, avoid guest like yourself and now you’re on our blacklist. We told you when you checked in that SuddenLink (our I.S.P.) was working on the lines and that the wireless internet was not working as good in back of the motel, during the time they have been working on the lines we have had a few guest come use the stronger internet in our office, even a big time Hollywood Producer was using the office internet and yet you are the only one to complain. And when it comes to the other stuff you mentioned I think you are lying about it because you are upset about the internet. I guess no matter what we do there will always be one person that will complain like you. The best compliments we get from our guest is that we have the best and friendliest Manager and staff in town who gives the best customer service which you don’t know about and who also is not rude. Guest choose our motel compared to others because we offer the best rates for walk-in and online guest and also cleanliness that is as good as any franchise Hotels/Motels.

This motel charges top rate for a room in Bishop and the accommodations are horrible. The water pressure in the shower is nonexistent. There is a terrible smell of Indian food coming from the office and wafting into all of the rooms near the office. The weekend of April 27,28 was 90 degrees in Bishop and the management refused to open the perfectly useable pool. I will NEVER consider this dive as an option again!m

Room Tip: Stay at The Trees Motel just up the street.

MtViewManagement, Manager at Mountain View Motel, responded to this review, May 6, 2013
Let me start off by letting everyone know that this man is just angry because we had to call the police to remove him from our motel because of his attitude and profane behavior, I understand you had a problem with your shower and I was sending a member of our staff to fix it when you started yelling profanity in our office and parking lot, we are a family motel and little kids do stay here with their families and we can’t let them be exposed to such things. None of our rooms smell like Indian Food, around dinner time sometimes you can smell us cooking when you are in the office and people do appreciate the smell of foreign foods. Also when it comes to the pool we had told you that the pool can’t be opened yet by law because at that time we did not yet have a pool lift, if we let you swim we could have had to pay penalties of $55,000. Also you did not pay top rate during your stay, as a matter a fact the lowest rate in Bishop besides us was $119.99 and you paid much lower than that, but I guess sometimes people don’t appreciate a good rate. Also in our past couple years under new management we have only had to call the police to remove a guest twice, we knew when the cops removed you that you would leave a bad review twisting the truth. but good reviews are not worth the safety and well-being of our guest, especially the ones who are children.

We paid 90 USD for a room, which was run down and not too clean. We have had rooms 10 times better than that for a little bit more cash on our recent trip to California.

Very thin walls....earplugs needed!

All in all very bad value for money.

I’m sorry, but I don’t know what you mean by the rooms being “run-down”. The owners have recently invested over $60,000 for renovations. We often get compliments about the improvements that have been made, and many return guests. And when it comes to your comment about the room not being clean, our housekeeping staff works hard to bring our rooms to a high level of cleanliness before we rent them out, if something happens in a room and it cannot be cleaned to the level of our very strict guidelines that day, the room is shut down and not rented until it is able to meet the guidelines, and that is also why many of our guests return to our motel when staying in Bishop. And we have never gotten complaints about “thin walls”. In fact, our walls contain a sound absorbing material used in sound-proofing that is not standard for motels in this area and, as far as I know, no other motel in Bishop or its surrounding areas are using this. Our rates are very seasonal and are lower than any other motel in the towns advertised rates.

If you are looking for a bed and not much else in Bishop, check out this basic motel. It's clean, the A.C. works, it has a small pool, the wifi works, nice staff. Breakfast is toast and corn flake. For the price, you cannot beat this. Bedding is a notch above Motel 6. This is where you want to say if you're looking for an overnight on your way Tahoe or Mammoth.
