“its cute”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2014

My husband and I visited with our dogs memorial weekend, we stayed here before but at the motel part not a cabin and it was pretty nice so we decided this time to get a cabin.

Our cabin came with a small kitchenette and a Jacuzzi tub. When we got to the cabin first thing we noticed was holy cow its small AND very dark, only a few light bulbs worked we just opened the windows and worked with what we had, my only complaint about this particular cabin is the kitchenette, I don't know who designed it but it was really stupidly made. Plus the sink threw water every where as soon as it was turned on, so if you're cooking or eating in the kitchenette prepare to get water thrown at you in every direction. OH and ANTS! I had to throw away my dogs food because within an hour of us putting the dog food in the bowl the ants took it over, thankfully there weren't any ants in the kitchen area.
Next time we will let them know to not put us in cabin Katy, stay away from that one.

We arrived at around midnight, tired of course from the drive (San Diego) Front desk lady very nice and helpful. We got to the cabin, unpacked, turned on the heater and proceeded to get ready for bed. Well, the sheets were not clean, a lot of hair on the sheets some seemed to be curly! If you get what I'm saying. Went to front desk and asked for new beddings w/c I got. Went back to cottage (the Christy) and upon entry, there was a smell of gas! went back to front desk an was told maybe it was the pilot light on stove. Sure enough one was not lit so got a match and lit it. Later I still smelled gas so by this time it was about 1:17 am I was embarrassed to seem like a complainer so I turned off Heater thinking maybe this was the reason. Couldn't sleep bec. the gas problem (turned off heater got a little better) It was freakin cold too bec. it snowed up there.
The next morning told front desk of problem and they said they will have maint. check it. Went to breakfast and grocery shopping for BBQ @ the cottage for lunch and dinner later that evening. Got back to cottage about 2 hours later went in and again the smell of gas! Too make a long story short, This place has problems. But if you don't believe me, go ahead and stay here! Just bring your own bedding. The fact that the place is old is appealing. But any place you are going to pay for stay and sleep? Yes, the bedding should be just about perfect!
Lastly, when we checked out we were not even asked why we were checking out early! Just an " OK Thank You! "
Good Luck staying here.

Room Tip: Try the Langonita, clean rooms and right on the water. you will be very happy here.

This place is great! If you want to rest and chillout from the city rush THIS IS IT! Lodges are cozy and clean, well equipped and comfortable. Yes they are little bit old and have the "cottage" smell but we dont care. Cottages have their own kitchen with all equipment so you can cook meals and dont have to go out for dinner or so. Marina is like 5 minutes by walk away same is town center with all the shops and restourants. 5 minutes walk behing lodges is very nice forest and hills which are ready for nice walks or bike rides. This place is heaven. Now the bad things - wifi is worst I have ever experienced its soo sloow you cant even open email , and there are a lot of ants in the kitchen so if you leave something sweet in the kitchen be ready that in hour it will be full of ants. But those are minor problems if you want good rest this is a good choice for a good price.

Booked a suite at Black Forest the night before we headed out to Big Bear. We were nervous after reading other reviews but the price was very reasonable and it was close to the main village. When we arrived we were upgrade to a cottage, we were pleasantly surprised. The cottages stand alone so we didn't share any walls. It had a fireplace and a jacuzzi tub which was really helpful after a day of snowboarding. The bed was also very comfy! We walked to the main village for dinner and drinks both nights, it was very convenient. We have already recommended it to friends who are heading out there in a couple of weeks. Small but cozy!

This place was more then what i had expected. The price for a cottage was very reasonable and well worth it. I was so excited when i walked in and saw how beautiful the cottage was. The sauna was right next to the fireplace and the decor was so cute. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well, i would definitely go back again. To the people complaining about the fireplace not staying on all night use the heater you shouldn't fall asleep with a fire on anyway geniuses

Room Tip: The Cottage is wonderful it has its own parking and patio.

To tell you the truth, I booked this motel before I ever read any of the reviews.
Then I read the reviews and my stomach dropped, but it was too late to get a refund.
So we went and it was really really great!

I don't know what everyone who is complaining about this place is complaining about. Our room was super cool. We got one upstairs with the jacuzzi and fireplace in it. The room was really big with a gorgeous wood panel ceiling. It came with its own balcony and microwave, kitchen sink and refrigerator.

It was comfortable. It was clean. The decor was a little quirky but that was kind of entertaining to us. The bed was completely fine. Both me and my boyfriend are light sleepers and we both thought the bed was comfy.

Everything in the room worked just fine. The hot water and the heater come on immediately. We couldn't hear a peep from any of the other rooms and the staff were all really friendly.

There's a piano you can play in the main lodge and free coffee and tea. It's close to the main village area.

I would definitely come back and I would most definitely recommend my friends to come here.

First time in Big Bear and stayed in Gordon Chalet A. Very homely and cute. Staff really friendly. Into the evening my children started saying how theyve seen figures upstairs and the feeling of something following and watching them. Starting hearing stomps coming from next door along with sound of someone running down the stairs. No one was staying in Chalet B at the time. Checked in at 2pm and Checked out by 9pm. Other then that our Chalet was very homely and the staff were super friendly.
