“Can't wait to go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2011

My husband and I stayed at Sleepy Forest Cottages for two nights while celebrating his 30th birthday. We arrived earlier than expected and were given our room with no problems. The cottages were so cute. We stayed in one of the units (215) with the gas fireplace and were very suprised. The fireplace put off so much heat that we didn't even need to use the heater. The room also had a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Pictures on their website are exact to how the cottage looked on the inside. The cottages are located only a one minute walk to 7-11 and McDonalds. Loved everything about it and can't wait to go back.

If you like snowboarding, sking, hiking, biking? snow and a hot coco by the fire? maybe need a decent place to crash? for the price of a standard hotel room this is the place.
the tub is romantic, relaxing, with your loved one they provide spa aroma bath bubbles by the fire. perfect after a day of snow shredding.
213 had 5 shower heads with decent water pressure. warm you up real quick and enjoyable to bathe under 4 shower heads at the same time
however the mattress was older then me. i could feel the springs in the couch and bed :(.
the cleanliness when we got there the first night, was great, the second night they forgot a trash bag, didn't clean the tub, wipe down counters or tables.
Im not really that upset but i did get to me a little.
the location is perfect from attractions. the service was alright for the tiny family run cottages they are. it's quaint and cute. the mom and pop food joints are fab!
however i will have to note, after speaking with a couple a desk employees i was told, that since i would be gettting in late they would leave the key in specific spot (not disclosed out of respect)
there was a storm so bad we didn't make it until 2 am. and the key was not there.
after we phoned someone using the emergency number to wake up the near by attendant he was able to check us in.
we ended up paying for a day we never got to use and would have liked a refund or discount or some consolation.
over all it was fun way to re kindle the holidays with my fiance.
i wouldn't recommend for more then 1 or 2 nights max because of the the springs in the mattress.
maybe it was the holiday weekend as it was thanksgiving holiday why service was a bit off so i'm not going to bash this place.

We are very sad that this guest did not enjoy the bed or couch. I believe I remember this and we have since replaced the matress. We are always checking and replacing beds and sofas, etc. We do have a late check-in procedure, and I do live right next door. We must have forgotten to put this key out, which RARELY happens. Our most important concern is that you conact us while you are here, and let us know exactly how you feel about your room and stay. We will upgrade anyone to any available room at anytime if you do not love your cottage/cabin/room! And we are on call 24/7 to deal with any sudden issues. Thanks! Josh Pool, Management.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2010

My family and I (three girls aged 3,5, and 10) stayed here during the 2010 Thanksgiving weekend. We had reserved #200 which is a freestanding house advertised as being very comfortable and full of amenities. This weekend, the temperature dropped down to about 20 degrees during the night.

The good stuff: we checked in early and the place was ready for us already at around 11:30 am. The cabin is large (I'd say around 850sqft) and has a huge backyard and a deck. There is also dedicated parking. The staff, at check-in was very nice and provided us with maps, recommendations, and other material. The cabin itself has two bedrooms, a bathroom, a full kitchen, a living room, and a breakfast area. Overall, should be fine for a family of 5.

The Bad: The decor is probably the same decor for the last thirty years. The beds in the bedrooms had mattresses on them that are definitely more than 20 years old with the springs showing through them. The bed spreads, comforters and pillows all looked like they were the same age. There are two roll-a-way beds in the closets which had mattress protectors on them that has numerous little holes in them similar to bug bites. We saw those and closed them up promptly. My wife made the observation that the sheets and blankets all smelled as if they have not been washed in a while. The towels were all very old and seem like they had gone through the wash as least several thousand times. For a cabin that was advertised to sleep 7, there was a single bar of soap and one very small shampoo bottle.

The living room has a green sectional couch that is easily 30 years old. It is a broken couch that has one section so low to the ground that it is hard to get up from. On top of that, there is a lazy-boy chair that is also broken. To top it all off, the couch and the chair had cup holders that were very dirty. There were specks of food and what looked like dried snot on them. My wife refused to let the kids sit on the couches before she spread sheets that she brought from home on the couches first.

But the killer is the heater. There is a heater in the living room that works quite well, but it is only in the living room. We had come back from dinner around 7:30pm and walked into bedrooms that were extremely cold. My wife, already apprehensive about the quality of the beds, refused to sleep in the bedroom fearing that the kids will get sick from the cold. Instead, we had moved the coffee table and used our inflatable mattresses and sleeping bags (that we take everywhere just in case) and slept on the floor in the living room. Needless to say, it was not the bed sleeping experience we had.

Due to these issues, we had checked out the next day and cut our vacation short. My wife refused to sleep like this another night and even if the bedding was okay, we would have been very cold since there is no heating in the bedrooms themselves. We checked out at around 3:00pm and upon checkout, the person at the office simply asked whether or not we got an okay to checkout late. I had informed him that we had just decided to checkout early and that we had paid for the night and the only response was "let me check your balance". He was not interested to know why we were leaving early.

Overall, I'd say that our vacation was ruined in a way due to the poor quality of the cabin. I am aware that there are several cabins in the property, but this was advertised as being one of the best cabins there. I had reserved directly and spoken to the staff a couple of times and was assured of the quality (I know what my wife likes and doesn't like so I always ask before reserving) but did not expect what we got instead.

We are very upset that this guest did not enjoy their experience with us. Cabin #200 is probably our oldest "Private Home". It is a house across the street from our office, and is privately owned as our number of Private Homes are. The house itself is very old and rustic. Our Private Homes are very well-kept and fun cabins to stay in. Some are old cabins though. We would have liked to upgrade this guest to a nicer more modern cabin at our lodge, but may have been booked during this busy season. We were happy to refund them though, as they were not happy here.

Stayed here over the Columbus day weekend. Reserved one of the honeymoon suites (17) was very happy with it with 2 exceptions.
The first night we were awakened to a temperature of 84 in our room even though the thermostat was set at 70. We could not adjust it, so just turned it off and cracked open a window. This balancing act worked until morning when we notified the office of the issue. They told us they would replace the thermostat, which they did before we got back from our day on te town. From then on there were no heat problems.
The other issue was that the bed was just a little uncomfortable, creaky and hard, but we could live with that.
On the plus side,we loved the Jacuzzi tub for 2 which took some time to fill but worked great. We also genuinely enjoyed the gas fireplace and sat on the couch in front of it while we watched T.V.
As the cabin is close to the road, occasionally we would be waken by road noises and the like.
The grounds are very pretty with many large fir trees and near the office some manmade waterfalls which made the site idyllic,
The owner was very hospitable and seemed happy to talk with us about the area or our travels. So all in all, we would go back there next time in BBL, and heartliy recomment this place

We stayed two nights and it felt like a mini vacation. The place was beautiful very close to everything went with the kids and they had fun looking at the squrilles. The linens smelled clean and the beds were comfortable. The kids loved the tub. The staff was friendly. It was convenient that they sell logs for the fp in the office. Would def stay
again. Already making plans. We also loved that it's like a hotel they provide maid service.

We stayed for 5 nights and loved it.! Super clean, sheets smelled so fresh and the bathroom was spotless. The kitchen was perfect for a family of 5. Stove and oven looked new. Kitchen included microwave, coffee maker and blender. We really enjoyed eating dinner on the patio. Very quiet, we slept with the windows open and no noise problems. Overall a great place to stay. Can't wait to come back!!

We LOVE it here, especially in October or November. It's close to everything & reasonable. The weather's great, we even had snow once in mid November, but light. The trees off our porch are lovely, some pale yellow leaves & red berries others still changing with pale green, yellow & orange leaves all on one tree! We like the space in the 1 bedroom with fireplace, a sitting area & kitchenette, but also enjoy the cozy bedroom with fireplace, kitchenette & sofa; all have nice porches & squirrels:-) and bar-b-que grills close by. Even though you are right off a main street, it is quiet and it feels secluded because you are away from the street and the cottages are a bit away from each other. It is nice to be able to cook your breakfast & bake brownies, have popcorn, etc. You can buy groceries to cook with as there are Vons & other grocery stores, even a 99 Cent store, not far & delicious, reasonable home cooking restaurants near by, like in the Teddy Bear center. You can go to the town library if you don't have a laptop & need a computer, I did. Everyone has been friendly & helpful, the place is clean & just right for a fall escape.
