“Wonderful place to go: FREE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

This is a wonderful free outing for any age group, or for a family. It is full of the 'touchy, feely' exhibits that kids love (animal pelts included!) , dioramas or local animals and birds, complete with matching habitats. EXCELLENT rock exhibits, including a 'dark closet' where rocks are glowing in the dark (with help from a black light. I totally loved that and I am not a kid!
There is plenty of (free) information available regarding local spots to camp, to go and explore. A lot of information about trails in the area for walking, riding horses, off road vehicles or just exploring in general.
Despite what we 'usually think; this is a terrific example of your 'tax dollars at work." the people are very intelligent, friendly and more than happy to share their espertise.

“Not much there”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

All we got from this place was some brochures and trail maps. The people were not as friendly and welcoming as in other visitor centers we've visited

“Really Cool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

I've never been to another Discovery Center so I don't know what the others are like but this place is like a little museum of all sorts of flora and fauna of Big Bear. It is a great place to learn about the past and present of the area. The gift shop has awesome stuff!

“Great Information”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

The Discovery Center has all the information you could need for hiking, biking, skiing, etc in the area. They allow your pets to come with you and even have a water dish at the front door. Great learning experience for children and the staff is very helpful.

The rangers are so helpful and knowledgeable. They have animal pelts you CAN touch. Take the kids, they will LOVE it!
