“Better than decent. Excellent pizza.”
I'm ashamed to admit it, I rarely eat burgers that cost more than $5 or pizzas that cost more than $8. I just rarely splurge on pizzas when I can get a very acceptable $5 Hot 'n Ready at Little Caesar's, and even Pizza Hut & Domino's compete for the budget market.
But, my nephew from San Diego raved about Village Pizza in Big Bear, and since I just moved here (took over BB Village Lodge in the Village) and my sister was visiting for a weekend, we decided to follow the recommendation.
We weren't disappointed.
In fact, the pizza tasted so good, it made me feel guilty because it reminded me just how delicious a pizza can be.
Last month my other sister visited and we had a MORE expensive pizza down the street that was just 'so-so,' leaving me feeling pretty good about my regular habit of buying almost only 'decent' pizzas from the chain restaurants for many years. I can't even remember how that pizza tasted.
But Village Pizza? If you're in Big Bear and you're in the mood for pizza, this is the place to come.
Atmosphere isn't super. Counter service minimizes the tip pain (always leave some, but less when it's not table service, of course).
Sure... they're in the more typical $10 - $20 range and not $5 - $10, but in this case, it was worth every penny.
It's on the opposite side of the Village from me, and a longer walk than the several other pizza places in "the Village", But, I'll go back.
