...but the food and friendly service is certainly good, and that's all what actually matters when you come down to it anyway. Whenever I'm in Big Bear Lake, whether it be on business or on a relaxing getaway, I make it a point to have lunch or dinner at Pong's.
I usually order the BBQ Pork plate whenever I'm there, as I've never been much of a rib connoisseur, that is, unless I visit Tony Roma's...heh...heh. You know, it has taken me a quarter of a century to finally find an Asian restaurant that makes BBQ Pork the way I like it - not wet, hot, and greasy, but more on the thinly sliced and drier side...with great taste and excellent texture.
My meal is always served (at my request) with their small refreshing sliced cucumber and vinaigrette salad that I and all those whom I have taken there have raved about. Heck, I believe that once I had even ordered a second salad...it's just that good. Although the cup of rice included with the meal doesn't appear to be anything 'out of the ordinary', it too tastes superb and is one of the best that I've ever had - it's nothing fancy...it just tastes great.
The service at Pong's is very accommodating and one can usually find Pong coming to personally welcome her guests and checking with her patrons on 'how things are going' with their meal. Pong's is a landmark in Big Bear Lake and if you're in ever the area and in the mood for some good home-style Asian cooking, then do make it a point to visit Pong, as she'll make sure that you're welcomed and well fed.
