“Great place for a family vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

We had a great time at Inn Der Bach. It was a comfortable stay because it felt more like you were staying at a friends house in the mountains instead of a hotel. The manager Timothy and his son were always available to help out. They even brought in a special cake for my mom's birthday, which was perfect as she has some dietary restrictions and they had to go the extra mile to get it!
We really appreciated the clean rooms and the kitchens were well equipped. If we were missing anything, all we had to do was ask and it was provided!
We stayed up for the weekend and it was the very first snow, and it quit before we left too (Timothy said it snowed just for us!). There was no problem reaching the inn, or getting to town either, all the roads were cleared very frequently. Also, we were never cold inside! The heaters worked almost too well.
They also supplied our unit with books, movies, and cable TV. Oh yeah and Keurig coffee machines with a HUGE variety of K cups to choose from
We had a wonderful trip and will definitely be going back again.

Really enjoyed my stay at the Inn Der Bach. Just in time for the first snow of the season. The meadow was beautiful...covered in snow. The location is great...away from the tourist section of Big Bear...quiet and peaceful but close enough to drive to restaurants and shops. Timothy and his son were great...even going so far as to get a gluten free cheesecake for my birthday...not something you would find too many places. Our rooms were comfortable and warm (at 8 degrees a necessity!) and loved having a bathtub! The grounds have a gazebo and a koi pond; the historic Shay Ranch cabin is on the property...just a beautiful setting. It was a wonderful place to spend my birthday with my family...we'll be back!

I would have to agree with the most recent reviews posted. Timothy made my stays at Inn Der Bach most enjoyable and pleasant. After my first midweek stay of 4 days, I came back the following 2 weeks in a row for another 3 and 4 midweek days. I prefer the Big Bear area during the week when there aren't the crowds that the weekend brings. The location is peaceful and rustic, yet only 15 minutes away from "The Village" in Big Bear Lake.
Although Timothy's place is still a work in progress, he seems determined to correct the negative reviews earned by his predecessor as well as correct some of the minor flaws related to repairs, fluctuating wifi, etc.
Because of the availability of midweek rooms during the middle and latter part of August, Timothy was able to upgrade me as well as giving me a great rate.
Although I traveled alone on this trip (mostly fishing at Big Bear with a local friend), I would recommend Inn Der Bach to groups and families of all sizes. As stated in some of the other recent reviews, this is not a modern inn with all the ammenities (pool, spa, excersize room etc.), but it does capture the back to nature "feel" of the area and is more serene than some of the more tourist parts of Big Bear.

Room Tip: Of the two duplex chalets, rooms 8 and 10 are larger with a full kitchen plus dinnerware, silverware...

We booked the Inn Der Bach from MyQuickDeals for $115 for two nights. There is an extra $65 per room tax for two nights as well but it was still a bargain. The cabins were spotlessly clean, nice towels, comfortable beds, cute little kitchen with nice dishes, cookware, glasses and coffee maker. The property sits on a large acreage so you can sit outside at night and enjoy the stars and beautiful weather and it is very quiet because it is just far enough from town you don’t hear traffic. The Manager Timothy is friendly and helpful; when we arrived he was working hard on the place. The grounds are beautiful with the grass, pine trees, koi garden with little waterfall and a gazebo are all in great shape!

As for the downside … The regular prices for the rooms we had were $150 and $175 per night. I would not pay that kind of money for the In Der Bach but the special made it worthwhile. The kids described it as a “funky place” and the adults saw it as a “work in progress”. Keep in mind that you are reserving a cabin and not a resort! The owners really need to consider getting some professional contracting help … the property is beautiful and has so much potential and Timothy & his son work exceptionally hard but it’s far more than they can handle. The buildings need painting, the doors & windows don’t close right, many of the furnishings need to be replaced and half of the rooms are missing screens.

If you see special pricing and are taking a family where you have the ability to do some cooking in a rustic cabin and want space for the kids to play outside and have a mountain experience, it’s a great place! If you are looking for a beautiful 4-5 star place for a romantic get-away, Inn Der Bach cabins are probably not where you would want to stay.

I stayed at Innderbach a tew weeks ago and what made this place so great was the manager, Timothy and his son Joseph. They were both very helpful and Timothy went out of his way to help me feel comfortable. He gave me great info on where to eat and places to go on the lake for a good walk. You can tell he takes great pride in his work and has done an amazing job of working to make the Inn five stars! The place ha great potential to be one of the best places in Big Bear with a little extra investment and more help. Beautiful area!

Room Tip: Room 10 is beautiful. Room 12 is big for a fun family time!

We were kindly upgraded by Timothy, the very astute and detail-oriented manager of the property. We stayed in Chalet 10 and the price was amazing for what we were given. Every interaction we had with him was professional. The property is older, and not "5-star" level, but it's quaint and beautiful, and definitely worth the price. My husband and I stayed there for the weekend and spent our time spring skiing. (The skiing would probably not get a 5-star review...)

We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Request an upgrade - if it's available, it will be given to you.
