Stayed for 6 nights in late March 2008, thought the hotel was great though the roof top pool area is still being completed. This worked out to be great though as the front desk arranged for us to use the (very luxurious) pool at their sister hotel "The Rousevdlt" on sunset strip where there was a Playboy golf convention on one of the evenings, being a 25 year old bloke this was a highlight compared to a hindrance.

The location is great, just 2 blocks from Rodeo drive and the hotel used in Pretty woman. Staff are excellent especially Andrea in concierge who sorted us out with great trips and excellent restaurant choices. Car parking is expensive but Taxi's in the US are less than half what you'd pay in the UK, plus there's allsorts of coach trips if you want to travel a little further a field.

Overall – A fantastic location and great staff make this a good hotel, which will be excellent once the pool and ABH (above Beverly hills) rooftop bar are open.

“Stay away”

Thompson Beverly Hills Hotel

Apr 15, 2008

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in April, booked direct with the hotel, at a cost of 259$ per night plus tax, you also have to pay to park your car 28$ plus tax a day. The pool is no where near completed, the lifts are a mess, very very dark rooms ours was all black, black corridors, Iknow its boutique hotel but this is a bit much. The only good thing is the location for Beverely Hills.
When we explained to the staff that we were not informed of the pool, they said the website needs updating.

The staff is friendly. The lobby is modern and clean. I walked into the elevator and couldn't believe how dirty it was. The mirrors and carpet was gross. I got off on my floor and thought to myself "What the [--] is this!". Black lacquer walls, mirror ceiling, smelly hallway and a weird picture at the end of the hall of a man riding a quad...hmm? Ok...
My room was for a 25 year old male. This room smelled. Thank god they have a terrace to open the doors for fresh air.
It is very loud. Lots of traffic on Wilshire. At the same time every morning some car would pass by honking his horn with a tune of La Cucaracha.
Am I in Bervely Hills or in East L.A.?
Thank godness for the staff. That was the only thing that was nice about this boutique WHATEVER hotel.
I will send photos later.
The pool isn't even close to being done. It's a mess up there!

this is a true "little gem" of a hotel very close to the luxury of beverly hills but at a very affordable price...they have done a wonderful job making the rooms and halls extremely stylish without losing its functionality...absolutely no complaints except for one which is the TV did not work and when immediately fixed on request the actual reception was a bit of a blizzard...they told me they would comp my parking, but since i didn't have a car no consideration was made for the lack of TV

truly a nice boutique hotel with friendly helpful staff

This was a bad experience from the first minute. First, we were taken to a room where the smell of smoke was overpowering. The bellman said that it was because the hotel used to be a Best Western and so even though it had been repainted, the smell of smoke seeped through the paint.
We switched rooms and went to a similar room but without the smell. After unpacking, and trying to wedge our clothes into a locker which is the size of a high school gym locker, we cut on th tv which did not work. We waited about 30 minutes for the service man to show up and when he did he spent an hour in our room before telling us that it wouldn't work. They wanted us to switch rooms again but by then we had unpacked and had to leave for dinner, so we decided to stay without the tv.
We also noticed that it was a handicap room, which meant that the bathroom had only a hand shower (which meant water was all over the bathroom floor), there was no counter space for bathroom items, and the sink was lower to the ground so that it could be wheelchair accesible.
All in all, it was a Best Western with a fresh coat of paint and a really cool hallway. Of course, since the walls were so thin, it was easy to hear people in their rooms and when morning came, you not only heard the construction work, but also each and every car that drove by. We decided to shorten our stay and so we checked into the 4 Seasons for the next few days, which was ideal.
I understand that the Thompson is supposed to be ultra cool but it is hardly worth the money and is not quite as cool as they would like for you to believe. When I explained to the young lady behind the desk why we were checking out early, her response was something along the lines of "oh wow".
Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to stay.
