My wife and I had an very enjoyable stay at the Beverly Hilton. This hotel certainly wasn't cheap, but represented an excellent value considering the neighborhood and the competition.
Our stay coincided with preparations for the Golden Globes. We stayed for 4 nights and checked out the day before the Awards. By that time, the hotel was pretty much consumed by the hustle and bustle of setting up for the awards. I suppose that some may see this as a negative, but we came to LA to experience the glitz and glamour and found it fascinating. An added bonus was the ability, as hotel guests, to interact with celebrities as they came in to rehearse for the awards. We ended up meeting some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
The hotel faciities themselves are excellent. Its remarkable how they've kept the '50s style structure but updated the interior so thoroughly. As a Silver VIP member, we were upgraded to a junior suite. I wouldn't call it a true suite, but it was a spacious room. One glitch: I was actually booked on two seperate reservations, which I made the front desk aware of when I checked in. I still had to check out and change rooms. My second room was a corner room, a little bit smaller, but still a junior suite, so I certainly was not upset and appreciated the upgrade and the staff handled the situation very well.
As others have written, the room was immaculate, new, and featured plasma tvs. The bed was quite comfortable. The corner room had a smaller bathroom, but a huge balcony. The weather was cold so we really couldn't take advantage--but you could have had a dinner party out there, truly.
Amenities in the room were nice--Bose wave radio, good products in the bathroom.
My main complaint would be noise. Granted, we had a corner room, but that shouldn't make that much of a difference. We were facing Wilshire Blvd, and frankly, there was a lot of street noise. I was surprised insulation wasn't a bit better. A room on the other side would probably alleviate this problem, next time I would ask for one. Light sleepers should.
We ordered room service once. Of course it was over-priced (its an upscale hotel). Quality was good, but could have been hotter. Breakfast at Merv's was reasonable for a hotel of this caliber, arrived piping hot and was very good.
Most staff were friendly. Due to all the VIP's crawling around, there was a lot of security which was a little off-setting.
Self parking was a great option for us--you can valet park too, but we found it just as easy to self park--garage is attached to the hotel and you have more freedom and can run to the car if you forget something.
Location was a huge plus--the Beverly Hilton is in, obviously, a great section of town. Close to the freeway and Santa Monica, walkable to downtown Beverly Hills (but parking was ample so we drove), and about 15-20 minutes to West Hollywood. We drove to Burbank to see the Tonight Show at NBC and 2 and a Half Men being and the WB and even including traffic it was a reasonable drive.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Beverly Hilton. Its the quintessential 'LA' kind of a place--perfect for a special weekend away, or a business trip. The investment by the hotel's new owners really has paid off.
