I recently spent a night at the Beverly Hilton and got an AWESOME rate of $70 (which came to about $90 + parking). Believe me, for this area and this hotel it is a great deal, even though the rooms are very 2-3 star. These cheap rates won't be much longer after the new owners renovate the hotel. They plan major renovations to the whole property, spending about $200,000 per room, I believe. In a way, I hope they don't change the hotel too much! Anyway, the hotel is in an almost unbeatable location at the intersection of Wilshire and Santa Monica Blvds and set on nine acres in BH. The location is good in that it is very easy to get anywhere in the area (you can walk into downtown BH using the great pathway along santa monica blvd.), and at the same time it borders a very quiet residential area. While the Beverly Hills Hotel is located in a great residential area, it is quite a ways to downtown BH. The lobby of the hotel is very nice, albiet with cheap furnishings and out of place hanging things (I found them a little bizarre). The rooms, I will say, are very worn around the edges. I was given a room on the 5th floor with a great view to the north. While the rooms are not 4 star, they are not that bad at all, and are accually quite comfortable, and keep in mind, the prices are not 4 star at all. I would try to get a cabana room, which I hear are great, unless you would rather have a city view. The grounds are fabulous and very fun to explore. The pool is great. The hotel has an amazing history and it is truly very, very fun to go exploring and imagine the people who have walked these same grounds "if the walls could speak...". On that subject, you always run the chance of staying on the same night of some event or charity, as they are very often hosted at the Beverly Hilton, and often draw celeberties. This happened to me the night I was staying there, and it was awesome! I lived in LA for awhile (I'm from about 3 hrs north) and never saw this many so up close (there are usually huge crowds around). I saw Kelsey Grammer, Eric McCormic, Keren McCully, Wayne Brady, etc. all right in front of me with only about 2 other people watching! Eric McCormic walked right passed me several times and smiled at me. What was so cool was that there wasnt a crowd of people watching, there werent even any press or popperzzi (exept for a couple, but they got thrown out by the hotel security). There was just me and my friend and these celeberties walking right past us alone, waiting for their cars, going up in the elevators, etc. Some of them were staying in the hotel. So that was very cool and as those events happen often at the beverly hilton, you just might be there the same night.
That experience was priceless to us and I just couldnt believe I only paid $90 for everything. Yes, parking is $21 self, but it is LA and there are in and outs. I only gave it 4 stars because of the subpar rooms, but I will be staying there every time I am in west LA, I assure you. The location, again, is surpurb. I'm sure I missed something, so if you have any questions please feel free to email me at themusicm8ker@aol.com.
