This was destination #5 in our 2007 summer holiday which took in San Francisco (Holiday Inn, Fisherman's Wharf), Yosemite (Yosemite View Lodge), Carmel (Carmel Mission Inn), Santa Maria (Holiday Inn), Beverly Hills (Beverly Hilton), Anaheim (Sheraton Anaheim) and San Diego (Paradise Point).
This review is for the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.
We were excited about this one so set off from Santa Maria bright and early, hit the freeway and fought our way to Beverly Hills. It gets rather “interesting” on the freeways around LA especially with one of your rear indicator lamps not working.
We arrived at the Beverly Hilton before 12 noon but everything was ready and they allowed us to check in.
In terms of parking, go for valet parking. This normally costs a bomb compared to self parking but the difference is about $4 ($(24compared to $29 for valet parking so a real no brainer). The guys take really good care of you, though at first your dusty hire car may get a few strange looks – not in the same league as the sleek polished sports cars! When you want to go out, simply phone down to the desk, quote your car receipt number and your car will be there when you arrive. Plus, often with complimentary bottles of water in the cup holders. Well worthy of a tip – excellent service.
Our room was a deluxe room at £40 extra. These are situated in the main tower block and have a large balcony. Ours had a great view of the pool (the largest in Beverly Hills). The room wasn’t the largest we had during the holiday as the beds are rather close together/close to the walls. But, having said that, it was all very VERY nice. Amazingly luxurious beds, a massive 50-60 inch plasma TV, Bose (yes a BOSE!) radio/CD player, bath robes etc. The bathroom housed yet another TV, was beautifully finished off plus L’Occitane toiletries.
Our breakfast was a complimentary voucher for a coffee and pastry served in the lounge., This was a mini Starbucks franchise but served with all the personal service that you come to expect with the Beverly Hilton.
The pool is another wow. The most comfortable sun beds in the world (ever) await you as do staff with more complimentary water. Our kids did shatter the calm somewhat when they were playing in the pool but perhaps that was me being too sensitive.
We didn’t eat (other than breakfast) or drink at this hotel – not really suitable for young families but then we were out at Universal Studios until quite late. You can feel a little out of place getting in to the lift in your t-shirt, shorts and trainers when there are lots of crisp designer shirts and posh frocks milling around but I suppose that’s Beverly Hills for you.
Overall, a great place to stay with a high level of service and luxury. We're going back ths summer.
