This is a very lovely hotel, in a very lovely setting. Our room was a standard but very nicely furnished. Bathroom was very nice with seperate toilet and lots of space. The communcal areas are also very nicely decorated, and the grounds and very nice to walk around. We had one breakfast in the Fountain Room which was very good, if you want to go at the weekend get there early as we were lucky - others queued for 30 mins for seats. Dinner in the Polo Lounge was fantastic. Wonderful food and great service. My only complain if it can be called that was the size of the portions! We opted for the tasting menu, however the portions felt like generous main courses - 6 of them!! Needless to say we rolled out!!
Service was very good, however it didn't feel terribly genuine to me. I felt that we only really had good service when we were tipping generously which gets a bit tiresome after a few days.
The location has its pluses and minuses. Positively the hotel is easy to drive to, and is quite the oasis in such a manic city, also there are many nice shops and restaurants a short drive away in the Beverly Hills 'town' centre. Note the hotel has a limo driver who will take you there for free. Also you are easy drives from several top LA attractions such as Santa Monica and Hollywood. I think the only negative is that you cannot walk out the hotel door and go anywhere for a bite to eat or a drink - you really have to rely on cars.
All in all a lovely place, but I felt that we weren't important enough to receive the full star treatment!
