“Fun place, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

Avalon is a fun place to stay if you like a mid-century-modern vibe in a location that's convenient to various areas of LA. The best part of the hotel has got to be the restaurant/pool area, where you just want to hang out all day. We didn't eat there, but plan to next time we're in town. We did have cocktails, which were innovative and delicious.

The staff is great. Everyone is friendly and very helpful. The room was showing a bit of wear, nothing major, and it was still fine. Very roomy, with a spacious and well-lit bathroom. Comfy bed.

Dear Travel4FunAndBiz,

Thanks for sharing such lovely comments following your recent stay with us, here at Avalon Beverly Hills.

It was a pleasure having you with us and we were delighted to learn that you were able to relax and enjoy our Kelly Wearstler designed guestrooms, iconic hour glass pool and our delicious hand crafted cocktails pool side!

You certainly must visit us again and experience Oliverio Restaurant. Chef Mirko Paderno's signature menus feature modern Italian food with regional touches and are a "feast for the senses".

I was certainly most excited to read your kind note about our dedicated service team throughout your visit.

Thank you again for staying with us and for taking the time to share your experience. We hope to see you back soon!

Kind regards,

Having been to Beverly Hills many times, I never knew this hotel even existed. Off of a busy street, the hotel is unassuming from the outside, but offers an oasis of calmness once you enter. The lobby and hotel are all decorated in a mid century Eames era style and quite attractive. The Front Desk staff are nothing short of perfection, always friendly and professional, and remember your names throughout the stay. They helped us with hard to find tickets too. We had a second story suite overlooking the pool. The room was large and comfortable with a gigantic bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and all of the amenities were of a top quality. Even the room service menu was well chosen and affordable. Beware of the $6 small waters beside the bed. Also, the air conditioning is antiquated and puts out little air, but the hotel states this is being modernized soon.

The pool was nice and warm and surrounded by cabanas and the night we stayed a DJ played pop music for about two hours with a pool side bar and snacks too. Service poolside was a bit slow, but with the relaxed atmosphere made no complaints. Cocktails are large and perfectly poured. The bell staff were also very professional. Parking is a bit expensive but street parking is non existent so you have no choice but to pay. You can also walk in about 10 minutes to Rodeo Drive and the shopping zones of the area. I definitely would return to this hidden boutique gem. Service is five stars!!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for one of the second story suites with the huge bathrooms

Dear pensando42,

Thank you kindly for taking the time to post this detailed review of your recent experience with us, here at Avalon Beverly Hills.

Indeed, I am immensely proud of our team here at the Avalon. Each of our colleagues is dedicated to providing all of our guests with the best possible experience, whether this is at the Front Desk, in our guestrooms, or at Oliverio, our poolside Italian restaurant.

I was pleased to note that your Suite provided you with an excellent retreat to rest and recharge. Each of our three buildings provide a unique room experience, and indeed our Suites offer a most peaceful stay.

I am glad that you were able to relax and enjoy the evening by our signature hour glass pool at Marilyn's Poolside Lounge. DJ Hapa spins his Feel Good Sound while our amazing bartenders shake and stir up the most amazing drinks; all complemented with a uniquely curated small plate menu by our own Chef Mirko Paderno

On behalf of all colleagues here at Avalon, thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to share your experience. We certainly hope to welcome you back in the not too distant future.

Kind regards,

Matt Bernard

The Avalon Hotel is located on Olympic Boulevard, in a quiet residential area of Beverly Hills. The check in was flawless. We pulled up to the circular driveway and were greeted by no less than three professional valets who collected our luggage and parked our car. We did not have to worry about a thing as we entered the gorgeous lobby. Next at the front desk, we were checked into our room in a matter of seconds by the friendliest staff I have ever encountered at a hotel. We really felt like celebrities.

The room was a mix of retro and modern, awash in shades of white and teal. It was very comfortable and had all of the amenities you could ask for—luxurious bed outfitted with Italian linens, designer bath products, iPod docking station, and flat screen television.

We ate brunch in a private cabana that overlooked the hourglass shaped pool. The food from Oliverio was tasty and the service was first rate.

The retro-style hotel feels like an oasis in the middle of Los Angeles. It is close to world-class shopping on Rodeo Drive and excellent restaurants in Beverly Hills but still feels like a quiet hideaway.

Positives:
-Exceptional customer service
-Boutique feel to the hotel
-Gorgeous pool
-Relaxing rooms

Considerations:
-None, I would not change a thing

I stayed at the Avalon in early June 2014 for the first time and it is now my favourite hotel in Beverly Hills! The staff are incredibly helpful, extremely polite and attentive and helped make my stay a great experience. The Oliverio restaurant is superb and the hotel itself is creatively and beautifully designed. Highlights were the valet car team, the front desk staff, my large room, the food, the location and I look extremely forward to coming back!

I have stayed at the Avalon Hotel on several business trips and have always enjoyed my stays! The staff is respectful, attentive and helpful. The rooms are very contemporary and beautifully uncluttered. If you enjoy stepping into today's Retro-Decor of the 60's, the Avalon is your place!

This was my first trip to LA and I was a bit confused as to the best parts to stay so I thought I would play it safe and stay in fancy Beverly Hills. Going by reviews of the Avalon I decided to stay two nights here and I am so glad I did. Parking is valet only and costs $31 per day unless you have a hybrid car and then they half it to $15.50. The guys at reception did not know anything about this discount however it is listed on the green initiative pages of their website and they had no problem honouring the discount once I brought it to their attention.

The location of the hotel is excellent if you want to browse around Beverly Hills and rodeo drive. Local celebrity hang out Urth Cafe is just around the corner and is always a lively place to get a drink. Cheesecake Factory is about 10 mins walk away and is a great place to go for dinner but beware of the MASSIVE portions!

The rooms at the hotel were a decent size however the bathrooms are a little on the small side. The Art Deco styling is constant throughout and it really does feel genuine and real with a sense of history rather than just a style gimmick.

There is a heated pool which is massively underused by the guest however it is one of the warmest I have ever been in, it is also nice and deep at 9ft in the deep end. It is surrounded by restaurant seating and the hotel is often used as a location for a number of parties during the day and night so it can be a bit awkward for swimmers as the will be a number of dressed up people having drinks right at the poolside while you are having a dip. If you are a morning swimmer you shouldn't have an issue.

All the staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly and I would definately return to the Avalon.
