They have seriously put the fiance and me in a NIGHTMARE situation. We reserved 45 rooms with them for our wedding guests on September first. We did this 11 months in advance knowing it might be a tough weekend. They made us sign a contract with them. Then one of our guests called them tonight. Apparently they will be closed for renovations at that time. THEY NEVER TOLD US!!!!! It is now almost May and there is a Cal game that weekend. We have a lot of out of town guests. We were so on top of things way in advance and now they have totally screwed us and aren't honoring the signed contract that we have. We were totally relaxed in that we planned ahead and that portion of the wedding planning was taken care of. The least that they could have done was told us. We had to wait for our guests to tell us. We will find somewhere else for our guests, but it won't be as convenient of a location (the Bay Bridge is also closed that weekend). What they did is totally uncalled for and actually pretty mean when you think about it.

“Disgusting, old, dirty hotel”

This is an older hotel that has not been kept up well. The elevators are ancient and frightening to ride in. Our room was very out-dated and dirty. There was hair on my pillow when we got to the room that was not mine and the bathroom had bugs in the tub! I would never stay here again, nor would I recommend anyone else stay here. On the plus side, the hotel has HBO and is close to UC-Berkeley...but that's about all it has going for it.

“Don't expect much....”

Hotel Shattuck Plaza

If location is your only criteria, this is the place to be. If cleanliness, quiet and comfort are on your list, KEEP SEARCHING. This is a tired, worn out and used up hotel which needs some fresh air, renovation and a housekeeping staff that has been trained. Definitely a Third World experience right smack dab in the middle of a city that deserves better.

The hotel is very dank and dingy. Room was in terrible shape with carpet stains, plaster falling off wall and a very uncomfortable bed. The shower didn't work so they moved me to another room that wasn't even made up. Finally moved me to another floor. There is no hotel parking so they say they you can purchase a validation sticker for $16 instead of the $28 the public parking facility charges. One problem, they always run out of validation stickers so you still have to pay the $28.

Poor service and very rude staff.

Will never stay there again.

“Great Service”

Hotel Shattuck Plaza

E-mail to local news paper.
On a recent visit to bay area, from Cape Cod, my son and I spent a few days driving down to montery and Santa Cruz and north to Mt Tampalpasis and point Reyes. After climbing hills, we ended up in berkeley our favourate place. Berkeley is incredibly diverse: the great mix of people, topography, architecture and business. We ended up at grand Hotel Shattuck Plaza witha nice room at reasonable rate, with Saturday morning seeing me comfortably reading your great paper in the hotel lobby. topping off this long overdue Berkeley visit, was the forgotten computer charger, but no problem, management quickly (Avi) quickly dropped it of in mail for us. Now I could just get the rest of my family to move to berkeley..........
