The Bay Area is filled with food choices. They say that in New York is centered around money, Washington around power, and the Bay Area around ... food! So there is lots of competition.
But even in this hothouse of food, Riva Cucina stands out. In an unprepossessing building in the Berkeley flats, convenient to the freeway, run by young people who are incessantly friendly and helpful, they consistently produce outstanding Italian dishes at a moderate price. I particularly recommend the beet salad, with thinly sliced beets all around the periphery of the plate, and the spaghetti bolognese.
In the early evening lots of families bring their kids, but later on the adults predominate, as they should.
Even lots of the locals don't know about this great little restaurant!
