“Clean, safe, and friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

We enjoyed the comfortable bed, clean room, and friendly staff. Stay on the second floor or upper floors for a quieter room. We would stay here again. Free parking is available if you get there early afternoon.

Downtown Berkeley Inn is located in the heart of Berkeley, within walking distance to the BART, restaurants, and shopping. Although it is only a couple of blocks off the main street, it is a quiet, secure motel. The rooms are a little snug but clean and comfortable. Parking is limited. And the internet is touch & go. If you are looking for a lot of amenities - you will have to go away from the downtown area. This motel is a good place to stay when you only need a place to shower and sleep. (And that's what we needed - so it was a good choice for us.)

The Inn is newish, it is well placed in central Berkeley, it is reasonably priced and the room is clean with modern furnishings. There is also limited free parking. There are lifts to the upper floors. The wifi is slow but free. However the rooms have a major drawback. The beds are well style with a mattress placed in a hollow space on a wood base. The hard wood base stretches 9 inches beyond the mattress. It is easy to forget this, particularly in the middle of the night when it is dark. I banged into the bed three times in the course of a 3 night stay. I have bruises and cuts on both legs. There is no fridge in the room either! The other problem is that there is a major building site next to the hotel. Heavy machinery and loud lorries begin their work at 5am - sleep is therefore a problem after 5am. This is not the hotel's fault but is a problem at the moment.

Room Tip: Until the building work ends there are no good rooms

Great stay at this hotel. You get what you see in the Internet! Great value. Great reception service.
They only have to improve the wireless service. And they are doing that. As I was on vacation visiting friends I did not mind that much. But if you are on business or a student you may find it essential.
Walking distance from the B.A.R.T. Station.
I do recommend!

I chose this hotel because it was the least expensive lodging in downtown Berkeley. It is really more of a motel, with exterior entries and the sink in the room motel-style (with plenty of counter space, which was very nice!). It was clean, nicely decorated, plumbing worked fine, the bed was comfortable, and it was not especially noisy at night. The only minor complaint is that the wireless internet connection signal was weak and the connection was quite slow. It is right near BART, lots of restaurants, and the Berkeley campus. I definitely recommend it!

We stayed three nights at the Downtown Berkeley Inn. It's a couple of blocks from UC campus, and a block off Shattuck, a main drag with lots of restaurants and the Berkeley Downtown BART (subway). Very clean, modern, only 27 rooms, quiet and comfortable. There is no lobby, but there is parking in the courtyard - free when a space is available - there aren't many but I always saw an empty space or two. There also seems to be lots of space, with meters I think, on the street right in front.

Traveled up to the Bay area in Oct '07. Got a good deal so decided to stay for a couple of nights and used this place as a base to go to Oakland, SF, and Berkeley. The hotel is located a couple of blocks away from the downtown Berkeley BART station. It's right on a corner across from a school. Parking is on the premises but on the ground floor in a parking court. Building looked new and the reception is on the first floor at the front of the building and although it's small, it's easy to spot cause it was mostly glass.

The contemporary look on the exterior continued on the interior with splashes of color and chic furnishings. There was a nice big flat screen mounted on the wall in front of the king size bed. The bathroom was small but not tiny considering the corner room was quite large. All the linens and towels were clean and comfortable. Really only used this as a place to crash, but did get to watch a bit of TV in the morning and just relax for a couple of hours.

Considering the location and all the restaurants and even the movie theatre close-by, would definitely consider staying here again if I go back up to the Bay area.

Room Tip: If you like it quiet, try to get a room facing the street and on the top floor. Sound from the parki...
