My fiance and I just had one of the best seafood dinners at Skate's (and I've been eating seafood my entire life). The restaurant is located at the end of the Berkeley Pier and was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We had a nice view of the Bay Bridge all lit up. The service was great. The Vanilla Sky martini and 10 gin martini were very good. The sage martini had an unusual taste to it. The garlic and cheese bread was addictive. The clam chowder was some of the best we've ever had. The king crab legs came with a delicious garlic-butter dipping sauce, mashed potatoes, and broccoli. I highly recommend the scallops. Hands down they were I've ever tasted. The scallops were soft and tender and I probably got 8-10 small sized ones on my plate. Some people might be disappointed that the entrees were not huge American sized portions. I thought the portions were just right. Not too much food so that you still have a little room to eat dessert. We had the banana cream pie, which was very good except I was expecting the caramelized bananas to be hot. Overall, an excellent dinner. Expect to pay about $10/cocktail and $30/entree.
