I stayed at the Nash Hotel recently and let me tell you ....whew!!!!!! Where do I start? The hotel is infested with cockroaches And I took some pictures of the nasty mattress(s) in two of the rooms. I'm thinking of posting them online. Well, it's off to the Better Business Bureau now!!!!!!! I was also overcharged as a final insult !!!!!!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Just a few comments on the Nash hotel:
We arrived late and had to call for the staff and had to wait outside for 20 minutes.
Our room was small, dirty and we found a window in the room, which had to stay there.
We found some old clothes in the room and even an old porn magazine (my girlfriend was not very amused!)
No private bathroom, walls thin like paper, you can hear everything, really everthing.
We really felt uncomfortable all the time.

The hotel is good for students staying at the UC Berkeley, but definitely not for people who want to visit the town.
And I also think some of the comments are fake.

Do not waste your time or money on this --------! Besides the creepy guests, the hair in the bed, the thin walls that allow every inkling of a conversation through it, the lack of soap in the bathroom, the feeling of "oh my god there MUST be at least 10 roaches in my room and one or two mice" that oozed from every crack (and there were a lot) in the wall...the place was great. I went onto tripadvisor with my boyfriend before flying to CA and staying one night at the Nash and read some nice reviews. Well, i don't know what Nash Hotel in Berkeley they are talking about but the Nash on University Ave in Berkeley, right up the street from UC Berkeley is a --------. I mean -------- in every sense of the word. I was nervous to put my feet all the way under the sheets out of fear of what may be dwelling down there. After i saw the human hairs all over the bed, anything could have been possible. Not only was it a --------, but the price more than doubled for the room once we showed up. Do not think you are getting a room for $49 a night. We thought we were and it ended up being $79 a night in real life.
Do not waste your time or money on this --------!

The price is certainly cheap enough at $49/night, but I felt dirty the entire time. I found a dirty sock in the bed that I assumed was clean when I checked in. The best investment I made during the trip was pillow cases and my own towel. The hotel could be very charming, but in offering low prices they clearly cut costs somewhere (cleaning). The lobby was filled with vagrants two of the three nights I returned after dark. They were not a problem, it just seemed odd to me. I had no problems per say, but it was just dirty. I won't stay there again unless I'm really desperate. I also don't believe some of the good reviews are real.

On a trip to Berkeley we spent a horrible night at the Nash. It is noisy (right on the street) with bright lights shining in. The interior is ancient and decrepid, faucet and toilet dripped, the shower had exposed plumbing. This place was the pride of town in the 50's! They don't take credit cards and tried to overcharge us. Be warned!

Good location, good price, very convience to downtown, bus, and BAR. I come to Berkeley for a new job. While I was looking for apartment rental, I tried Nash Hotel for a week. Thanks to their free Internet Access that I can connect to my friends and family. The most of all, I finally find a rental house near my new job.

BEWARE! This hotel is not ok. It surely is cheap, but you do get what you pay for. The rooms are small and dirty. The bedding is over 20 years old. The bathrooms are disgusting and by the way, you share them with your entire floor. This is truly a roach hotel (and indeed I did see the roaches as well as smelled the roach spray for the day that I spent there). The service is even worse. I've never regretted an experience so much! Run out of there, but if you're not picky and extremely cheap, then go for it... You may not regret it as much as I did. But please, check out what you pay for first before regretting it later!
