“Acoustic music in a great venue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Wonderful treasure in Berkeley, CA. The sound in the new
building (about 2 years old now) is fabulous. Raked seating and an extraordinary choice of artists each month. Music ranges from folk to bluegrass to folk rock to some classical evenings thrown in. A must for local and tourists. Downtown Berkeley across from the Berkeley Repertory Theatres, Aurora Theatre and The Jazz School (which has good dinners).

“intimate setting for music”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

this is a wonderful place to catch your favorite folk or other music; it is an intimate, casual space with a fine sound system. You will be sitting in pretty close proximity to the acts no matter where you sit. A self-service bar provides the stimulation you need. Rather than small tables, the seating is theater style, but it's a small theater. The atmosphere is very good -- nice folks run the place, and they have a fascinating line-up on the schedule.

“Legendary coffee house with roots music”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

The old location was cool, but so is the new one. It's in downtown Berkeley. No alcohol served, but does have a coffee shop menu while shows are in progress. The Calendar is usually spotted with local talent, unknowns, and famous folkies. Some really great acoustics and nobody has a bad seat. This is an iconic Berkeley estab. and is a very worthy visit for anybody interested in good roots music. Workshops also available.
